Told you to pack the 3.55's back in! :burnout: .... I'd go with 3.55's

I know..I know Tim I should have lol! Now after all the money I spent this year on the car I dont know when I feel like ripping the rear back out.. although now would be the best time since its up on jack stands anyway for the winter.

Nope that's the route I'm going when I do the rear diff. Just waiting to see what fore innovations has coming. I only want to do this once.

Back in the day I used to run 5.38s on the sreet in my Chevy II (still have it), with a close ratio Muncie, and a 29" tall tire.
I'm having fun in this thread reading about guys going to 3.27s or 4.10s.
I guess it shows how things have changed.

With 550-600whp a 3.55 will be about perfect on a 26" tire (factory).

I had 4.10's with 470whp when I was sc and my bfg 315/35/17's were useless in 1st and second if I launched too hard. With 550, 4.10's would be aggregating imho.

I had 4.10's in a 500whp turbo car for a week and hated it; 3.55's now on a 28" tire and will probably get a 3.27 soon as even these gears are too tall for a turbo car on a 28" tire.

Its funny (not really) how most of the people that actually post, are arguing for lower (3.55's) while the poll shows 3.73's

3.55s

Don't fix what ain't broke. Unless you specifically have an issue arise that clearly would be solved by a different gear ration, leave it alone.

The 3.55s are correct for a huge variety of conditions, applications, horsepower levels and even tire sizes in these cars.

And if you ever go for more power(twin screw or turbo) you will need a very tall tire to compensate for a move to 3.73s.

Time for a better Diff cover while your at it.

Better how? cosmetics? I've not heard of the factory unit breaking with an IRS brace installed. Prior to my brace I put a hair line crack in my diff cover and it would leak oil. That was when the car was new & stock too. Drive it like you stole it lol

LOL!!!! Yup cosmetics. :rolling: All joking aside Tony is like me and loves to spend money. Fore innovation is making some and you have to go on the list. Has a diff cooler option as well.

So you're saying changing rearend gears don't affect torque multiplication or rear wheel HP?

yes incorrect. the dyno tuner has to put in what rear axle ratio gear you have in it to account into the formula for getting the correct numbers.

horse power is a calculated formula based off the torque
