broke the car on the first of the month on a test and tune, finally tore into it today, here's the snapshot: stock 3.73's, (has the upgraded diff stock ,2011 brembo 3.73 package). I've beefed up the rear end with a che axle brace and the FRPP rearend girdle with bearing supports. I put the race tune in from john lund and was hoping to click off a low 10 second run that day. I was running MT ET drag 28x10S 15's doing 5k RPM launches. I got more than I thought I would out of the rear end. the only thing I hadn't upgraded was the diff and the transmission. everything else is beefed up in the drive line. 1pc ds, and a McLeod RXT clutch.

happened at the line on launch. first run I launched at 4500 rpm and she bogged a little, so the next/last run I launched at 5000 rpm and side stepped the clutch and gave it gas at the same time. front end lifted and crunch, crunch, crunch, that's all she wrote.

I'd like to believe the diff cover kept the diff in the rear and prevented more damage from happening.

here's the results:

notice the weight reduction mod to the pinion gear:

spider gears and carrier:

the valley of the dead spider gears:

only good thing about this is the axles are still good.

Lol I like seeing other people suffer. This past weekend I tried a 6200rpm launch on 28x10.5s and im sure I have the same result. Car moves back and forth at 3mph but turning is a chore lol

side step yes, radials no. they were et drag slicks

got a truetrac on it's way. and gonna step down to a 3.31 gearing. overall I guess I got a little lucky, both were things I was gonna upgrade, just happened a little before I wanted to.

i see. yeah a true track would be a nice upgrade. i will be putting 3.31s on mine next week but i will keep the stock diff in there for a couple of more months. a true track would be the wise thing to do but i rather put the money in other things (shocks/struts) which might be a silly idea but we will see.

Sorry to see this, been seeing it a lot lately it seems. Hopefully this winter I will also be going to a true trac.

I'd go with the diff before shocks and struts if you plan on tracking it in the next couple months. stock shocks and struts won't leave you stranded at the track if they fail (highly unlikely to happen), a diff will. I did it the hard way.

In my search for upgraded differentials alot of ls owners hate the truetrac...they call it the truecrap. Im looking into the Wavetrac unit as a possible upgrade.

that's exactly the opposite of what I've heard. the 8.8 wavetrac has been bad. but all other versions are solid, and the truetrac failures have been few and from what ive seen were installation error or the trutrac itself was bad and replace under warranty

The wavetrac is a bad option for drag. Its weaker than the stock gt500 LSD. The truetrack is stronger than both.

yup, the truetrac, and 3.31's are on their way. along with a rebuild kit. tired of shifting into 5th gear in the 1/4 mile. that and the first 3 gears are useless around town. hell, I don't even use first gear anymore.
