They never gave me break-in instructions I can remember, but I know they build Cobra Jet engines and I know what race engine break in is like :)

You would think that after all these decades that there would be some definitive science to confirm just how an engine should be broken in.
Instead, it's just a bunch of voodoo witchcraft.
Ask 4 engine builders how to do break in an engine and you'll get 6 different answers.

Break it in like you plan on driving it.........

Has always worked for me.

I was emailing back and forth with Jim yesterday, getting a few things ironed out and we did discuss break in. He said they'd prefer I get 500-1,000 miles on it for break in. Valvoline VR-1 10W-30, dumped at certain intervals. Normal driving varying RPM, around town, light tip in but limiting boost. Since they're doing the tune and warrantying the motor, I'll follow orders. So that'll definitely put me into the spring as far as getting the car up there for the dyno tune.

Looking on the bright side, that'll give me plenty of time to get any issues ironed out and the Gen3 should most definitely be out by then.

You probably don't want to get too crazy with it in colder temperatures anyway. I'd be interest in pics of that hose routing for the intercooler at the manifold when you start getting it back together. You've got a well thought out plan in this build.

Not much of a choice, no traction to speak of during the winter months up here, it gets damn cold at times. Any sort of spirited street driving is next to impossible.

I'll run 2 90* fittings off the manifold, each with a small section of 1" hose. The reducers will then go on and the stock 3/4" hose will be used the rest of the way. The hose routing itself will have to be slightly reconfigured from stock. So basically you'll have a 3" extension off of 3/4" hose becoming 1" to adapt to the -16 AN fittings on the manifold. I'll post pics of the hose routing and everything in case anyone else wants a blueprint. I'm not the first guy running this, so I don't expect any problems.

I have the same IC mod, finally got all my hoses in. Doing the same 2 90* to the drivers side. One to the heat exchanger and one to the tank. I am using a rear ice tank and swapping to 1" lines all the way through.

That 1" line is stupid expensive.

That's no lie. I was just looking at some a couple of days ago....pricey for what it is.

Post some pics of your setup when you get it all plumbed up man.

Took a trip up to NJ today and dropped off my cylinder heads/cams, etc. JDM has everything they need to assemble the long block now and it should be in my hands in about 6 weeks. Decided to go with Ferrea valves and a double keyed 10% damper from ATI, so that should be the last of the upgrades.

JDM had some cool stuff at the shop....I should've snapped a couple pics. There were a few Cobra Jets around (including an NA one), and a Whippled GT350. Made over 700rwhp on about 10lbs boost.

Lower intake manifold is done. Bypass raised for 100% core exposure. Widened entry, knife edge dividers, and ports cleaned up.

RBB where are you located? I'm in Maryland and have an enclosed trailer. I wouldn't mind picking you and your car up or you borrowing the trailer if you need it in December to take to NJ. Just an offer.
Damn, Brandon, that's a hell of an offer man, I really appreciate that. I'm in Winchester, about 60 miles west of DC on 81. Where in MD are you at?

JDM wants me to get 500-1,000 break in miles on the engine before we get it on the rollers, so December probably isn't a very realistic timeframe. I'll be happy to just have it running by December. February or so might be about time, though. If you really wouldn't mind, I would definitely take you up on that. I'll give you a shout about it as the time approaches and thanks again.

I'm in westminster. Not a bad drive to Winchester at all. Just give me a weeks notice and we can make it happen!

Engine will be buttoned up by the end of the day today. Who doesn't like some engine porn?
