The X50 is a great detector and so is the V1. Neither will avoid tickets completely, but both are useful tools to reduce your chances of a ticket. Both the X50 and V1 are updated so you can have the latest technology.

I feel the X50 with the XR3 Laser Jammer is one hell of a combo! I'm looking to add the ZR3 soon, which has been shown to completely confuse a laser gun.

Guys I need help. I want to buy the best radar detector. What works and what doesn't on Laser/regular radar/etc. any help would be greatly appreciated
Why waste your money? Those devices do not work.
(There is a reason why the radar detector alerts you. Don't just think of the obvious answer..., really put some THOUGHT into it.)

A radar detector has saved my @ss SEVERAL times.....they WORK.

If they didn't work, why would most of the people on the site own one .

Yeah, same as everyone else has said, Velentine One, Passport 8500 X50, or Bell Pro RX65. Just watch out for those planes that time you, those really get you :bash:

Thanks. This why I originally put it in this forum, which I found out pretty quick, it is the wrong forum. I wanted both sides (LEOs and civilians) to give constructive opinons. It seems some of the LEOs have them from this thread, but that is only my guess. Lawman gave a great opinon and so has everyone else. thanks everyone

I don't know why you people think radar detectors are worth the money... I don't need a radar to write you a speeding ticket and I sure as hell don't leave my radar on unless I already can visually see a car that is in excess of the limit by visual estimate (which I'm damn good at if I do say so myself) and then I give you a quick zap.... by the time your awesome V1 tells you there is a cop in the area... I already know exactly how fast you were going and for some odd reason... the radar display is almost always within 2mph of my visual estimate. I like refering to your waste on money on the dash as an Early Ticket Warning System. In fact, although not illegal in NY, a radar detector is an automatic ticket instead of the warning you were probably getting because you drive a mustang/camaro/vette. If you drive an import... you aren't getting a break anyway so you might as well try to cheat.

If caught with one.....Jail Time :(

There's no reason you'd go to jail. Trying to interfere with radar is illegal, however, lasers are not regulated by the FCC, they're controlled by the FDA, and it's not illegal so long as whatever state you live in hasn't outlawed them.

speaking as a law enforcement officer, the problem with radar detectors is that they make the driver feel as if they wont get cought speeding. It does not matter what radar detector you buy, the simple fact is if a police officer uses his radar the right way you can't beat it. Example: every radar has a setting for stand by, what this means is a radar detector is set up to recieve a certain radio frequency just like a car radio. but if the officer puts the radar on stand by and waits for you to get within his range and switch from stand by to xmit or transmit, by the time your detector starts going nuts your already locked in. when an officer decides to be lasy and leave the detector on all the time then you will have ample warning with just about any detector. So its been my expierence that not having on at all will give you better judgement while exceending the limit. and if your from jersey, in most cases an exceptable excess of the limit is 11 over anything more and you are taking a big chance in getting stopped.

I have a V1, I trust it completely. I wouldn't own or recommend anything else. On a side note, the guy that owns/designs V1s - mike valentine used to work for escort with a partner. When he formed his own company - valentine - he designed a completly new detector instead of using his old design from the escorts. The v1s are also upgradeable as technology changes.

I did not read through this whole thing, but i read a few. To sum up go with a v1 and possibly a laser jammer. The V1s have POP now, and are pretty good about getting instant on radars. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RADAR JAMMER!! They offered like $100k if someone could invent one. No one can do it. Unless you drive a car that looks like a stelth fighter you SOL on a radar jammer.
