Hello ladies and gents,

Does Ford have to honor tsb's? From my understanding they don't have to fix the head tick if the vehicle is out of warranty.
Im looking at purchasing a 2003 cobra vert. It has 50,000km or about 30,000 miles. Its is in mint shape, has the typical 2.8 pulley and mail order tune. It has off road h-pipe and flowmaster catback. The head tick just started about 2000-3000 km ago, and the oil cooler is leaking oil. Dried out o-rings im guessing. The owner isnt aware how common the head tick issue, and oil cooler leak is. So he brought it to ford (complete stealership), and they quoted him $15,000 to replace the engine. :bs:

The owner thinks the leaking oil cooler is the head gasket leaking. So with ford trying to rip him off and the owners lack of knowledge of these cars, I am able to get the car for an unbelievable price.

Thanks

Ford won't do anything for ya on the tick at least not at this time with the warranty expired .even when they were under warranty there was no guarantee they would fix it. Some got it fixed some didn't . I was lucky they replaced mine.

there is nothing to "honor" with a tsb.. all a tsb is good for is to aid the tech in finding and repairing a problem.. however, they do have to honor all safety recalls, which are done at no cost to the owner. But, they do have expiration dates on some recalls.

That's called the game of life. If they guy owns this car and doesn't know jack shit about it, and is going to let it go for cheap, it's a no brainer to not do it. Not the OP's fault the guy is a dope.

The owner told me what he wanted for it. I just agreed, This was way before ford took a look at it. So not my fault for finding a steal of a deal.

Yes I know its the head tick for sure, and I know its the oil cooler for sure.

I may be new here but I am not new to these engine, nor mustangs.

Where I live these cars in decent shape 40,000km-80,000km are still fetching $25,000+ all day. The price the Owner told me he wanted in less than half.

I have a set of rebuild 04 heads (9 thread) in the works with a buddy of mine in Ontario.

^^^^ This ^^^^

A TSB is for information. It does not alter the warranty.

Which heads (date?) did they replace yours with. I hope they were 01/05 or later. Otherwise, the tick issue could rear its ugly head again.

You've done nothing wrong. You'd be crazy to counter his offer with a HIGHER offer because you think the problem is lesser than the owner realizes. If it is indeed the tick issue and an oil cooler O-ring leak, then you're getting an awesome deal it seems.
