Thanks for coming! I'm in need of a little help. I purchased an 03 cobra, but whenever i go to release the clutch in any gear, the car shakes, a LOT. It has a Fidanza Flywheel and a Mcleod Street Pro Clutch. Now, that clutch is rated for 350hp, and im sitting at about 600. Wondering if maybe it's time to change it? Or if it may have damaged the flywheel from over spinning or idk. Motor mounts seem fine, if i rev the car i don't see excessive movement. Any help is appreciated.

An under rated clutch isn’t going to make the car shake, it will just wear out (slip).

Does it only shake in gear? Does it change under load?

Did you buy the car like that or was something done then it started all of a sudden?

It only will shake when easing out the clutch, once i'm rolling, then there is no shaking, and no shaking under load. This is how i bought the car, Drove it 14 hours like this from Georgia to Michigan

Id put a good clutch and flywheel in it. Time to go to a 26 spline while your at it, new throw out bearing and sleeve.

McLeod RXT with their flywheel or an OEM piece and new insert.

What’s the rest of your setup?

Do you have a 26 spline input shaft already?

Firewall adjuster with a aftermarket cable hook?

Sounds like clutch chatter too me. Since it only happens when you start rolling. The clutch probably wasn't broken in correctly.

Sounds like the problem is definitely in the clutch area. I'd take it apart before rushing out to buy anything. Verify the problem first, buy parts second.

Should be relatively easy fix, that is, not very technical. It might be something as simple as pilot bushing.

    Good luck.

Concur with chatter. You can typically manipulate how you release it to stop the chatter

The reason I said to check your driveshaft bolts is this happened to a friend with his GT500. The shop that installed his driveshaft didn’t tighten the bolts properly. He didn’t feel anything under load, but when the clutch was pressed in, the the driveline tension was released and the shaft would wiggle on the loose bolts.

Before digging into potential clutch problems (which very well could be the problem), just do a simple check of your driveshaft bolts. If they are snug, dig into the clutch.

I agree, I think it is clutch chatter.

Try bringing up the rpms before letting out the clutch and see if that smooths it out.

Tried this, it actually gets worse. If i can keep the RPMs low, it shutters less

Just saw this.... to check the motor mounts, you need to put a load on them. This is easy with auto trans, but more tricky with stick. You gotta induce load in forward and reverse. Right heel on brake and right toes on accel. Left foot on clutch. Apply brakes so car doesn't move and then rev engine gently and let clutch out until it just starts grabbing. Do this in forward and reverse. Carefully watch engine as this test is performed. Engine will lift noticeably if bad/broken mount. Be gentle with this test!

Just an update, the new flywheel and clutch are in, but they didn't help. Anyone know a good place to get mounts? Rather just do both engine and trans mounts, i'm sure they're original, and i called ford yesterday and they told me they're discontinued
