Does the z go into limp because of blower issues or from tranny or braking too hot?
I've heard varying theories, I'm not sure I've ever spoken to someone who knew 100% sure.

Even with it, Id probably want pads and fluid change. You really only experience high speed brake fade once before it is no longer an optional maintenance item.

The truth of the matter probably comes down more to marketing and what the buyers were told. To the uninitiated to the track, they go out, buy what everyone says is a racecar, buy a firesuit and a helmet, and go out racing once a year. They thought they would be tearing up all of the peons, but sat waiting to cool down in the pits. Some will research their issues and fix the problems, some will sue.

I'm amazed that the owners were at the track and not going 10 under on the highway. Maybe it's a Florida middle age crisis thing.

I'm not sure what these C7Z owners are expecting, but GM wouldn't even replace the heads in the C6Z they KNOW were machined wrong. Good luck on this one...

Sure, but if they want to attend an occasional track day they shouldn't have an issue after 15 minutes. I can track(have tracked) a 1995 Escort GT and not have issue in the first 15 minutes even when keeping it close to red line most the time.

What stupid is when people expect an anemic 125 hp car to be as hard on fluids, chassis, brakes, tires, etc as a 650hp monster.

Your 1995 escort does not need extra cooling because that POS 125hp engine doesn't make enough power to shear any of the car's oil to overheating conditions--even at 'redline' for hours.

Your 1995 escort does not need large brakes and extra ventilation to survive at track day, because the brakes never build enough heat when slowing the car down from 50mph.

I'll bet the C7Z in limp mode will drag that 1995 escort 'GT' around the track for the entire day.

15min is pathetic. It is marketed/promoted as a track car over a base c7. the fact that you can't use it for more than 15min in it's "intended/marketed" field of use is sad considering the cost. And I'm all for a Corvette in general. Love to own one.

IMO if I spend $80-100K on a car I refuse to "upgrade" anything on the car. Brake pads/tires are somewhat personal preference (stock setup should be OK), but upgrading coolers? No, that's a bit far.

If they are able to allow the car to get into limp mode (which I see as a good safety precaution for owners in general) after 30min of straight track use? Then that's much better. Typical "average joe" HPDE sessions are around the 15-20min mark??

So you run hard for a full session uninterrupted and pull off to let the car cool down.

Three things.

#1. I'm gonna have to say that I'd have to agree with some of the consumers here. Look at the advertising and it's the Z06 known as the track focused corvette. The huge picture at the top of the page is it setting on a track http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-z06-supercar
Z06 offers your choice of standard Michelin® Pilot® Super Sport ZP summer-only tires†(3) or the track-proven Michelin® Pilot® Sport Cup
The available 8-speed paddle-shift offers the smooth control of an automatic but with quick, precise shifts and manual mode for track driving.
The track-inspired Z06 etc. I guess it doesn't specify 1 lap at the track or 100 though.

#2. @03cobra#694 has been busy editing these arguing posts a lot lately

#3. Limp mode is never a good thing unless you are standing in front of the class giving a presentation.

I think the best thing to say about this whole track capable crap, is that reliability is an important quality to any "track" car that you buy. It's also that way for any car that isn't a "track" car by nature. I am a fan of a company building something with the intention of it being a track car, and actually engineering it to do so. If they want to have a Z06 with track capability, and a Z06 without all of the coolers to do that, they need to better educate people about how the non-track variant is extremely limited.

Much like the Shelby's, Ford took it for granted that a car advertised, touted, and beloved as a "track" car would be that way for the track specific models AND the non track specific models. They should've actually listened to the folks who actually buy these types of cars. Even if you don't get a track pack, the last thing you want is to be told your car can't do it due to overheating. Especially with a 50-100k dollar price tag. Not referring to any specific model or situation here.

The owners manuals and possibly other marketing information for the GT350 explicitly told people to add coolers and such to the non track pack cars if they planned to use it on the track.
