i missed the very first of it but i was very good make you want to join up. not that i am ready to kick the bucket but it would be nice to know that someone and complete strangers would take that good of care of you when you pass. really changed my perspective of the MACHINE ideal that i once thought of the military.

Just got done watching it. Had goosebumps most of the movie. I thought Kevin Bacon played a great role. Anyone else catch it? Thoughts?

I saw it. It is what it is, a very emotional movie that will surely pull on your heart strings. Lines like "without a witness you just disappear" bring on a lot of emotion. What impressed me the most was the honor and respect that everyone (except the TSA guard at the airport) gave to Bacon. Gotta tell ya, watched it with my wife and I had numerous times where I got choked up. Maybe in part because I was once in the military. Maybe in part because honor and respect for people just isn't what it used to be. Wonderful to see our men in uniform get it. Much deserved.

I thought the part where he wouldn't remove his uniform shirt at the airport because he didn't want to disrespect it, was wonderful. And not allowing Pvt. Chance's belongings to be x-rayed. And how about the loving and thorough care the body got. My of my! Wonderful movie. No suspense. No big drama. Just a movie that IMO is a must see for anyone. Oh, and I like that it sent no message of pro-war or anti-war. There was an understanding that people in this country have mixed feelings about it. Well done HBO! And great acting by Kevin Bacon. He did well in letting us see his internal struggles regarding where he was serving and why.

This movie is on a number of times this week on HBO. Check your local listings and watch it. You'll be glad you did.

Watched it last night. ( Its on HBO On-demand for those wanting to see it )
Very good movie, and got choked up quite a few times throughout it. As mentioned, the exchange between Kevin Bacon and the airport checkpoint guy was quite intense. The support and respect given along the journey is what hit me most. Definately a must watch imo.

I FINALLY was able to get around to watching this (downloaded an HD copy).

Jesus H. Christmas...I don't think I have ever teared up to a movie this much in my life. I don't cry that often, and make fun of my wife who tears up watching TV/movies. I'm glad I watched this alone, as she'd have been making fun of me, for a change. I wouldn't have cared though. This movie is well worth it.

I recommend this to anyone, and I think I'm buying this if and when it comes out on DVD to give to my father-in-law, who's a former Marine.

Here's a GREAT link: A Soldier's Story: "Taking Chance" - CBS News

It has a video narrated by the actual Lt. Col. Strobl. He recites passages from his journal that's the basis of this movie.

It also has his whole narrative. It's a great read. The movie really did it justice.

I watched it the other night. It was extremely good. I can not describe how proud it makes me feel to be an american. I can't wait till I get my chance to fight for the country that so many take for granted. No sarcasim intended. I really want to earn my right to be an American.
