How do I make use of the factory 2-step?

I use the two step on my car.... and it is SCT tuned. When i had my car tuned, "HPP in Lewisville" I asked him to "unlock" the adjustable parameters and had him make two seperate tunes with the only difference being the two step settings.

I have since adjusted both of these to my liking, "4kish for the street, 5kish for the track" and it HAS NOT AFFECTED MY REV LIMITER.

FWIW: I am using a Strategy Flash that has been wiped clean and had my custom tune put on. It holds TWO true tunes with a handful of adjustments that can be modified by me.

Once its setup in the tune, you can adjust it yourself by setting the "neutral rev limit" to what you want to launch at with your hand held tuner. You should have 2 rev limiters in your Xcal...a nuetral and an in gear limiter or something like that. Its been too long since I looked haha.
There is a value file from SCT that just needs to be loaded when creating the tune and it changes various setting and allows it to work. I used it on my GT and it worked perfectly.

I also have the pro racer package.

If there are anymore questions, I can answer them. And yes it can be used with a chip...the "tune file" doesnt change, but you will need to remove the chip and get it reflashed anytime you want to move that limiter, so its a pain.

Aslo it doesnt have to disable at .5MPH...thats the lowest setting available and is what most people use. You can set it up to disable at any speed below 120MPH I believe, should you so desire.

I have the PRP also. Yes, the 2 step does work. Yes your tuner can put it in for you. It is nothing more than a neutral gear rev limiter that shuts off when you get to around 0.5 mph (be default, yes this can be changed...) I had mine set to 1,500 rpms for a while. Every time the car started up, it would hit the limiter. Kind of funny, but annoying. I eventually ditched it. I can't use 1st gear anyway in my car. Even 2nd gear can be a challenge.

I have a question that might be dumb. My cobra is tuned with the SCT Xcal 2 programmer and was wondering if my tuner showed me how to set the 2 step at my desired rpm will this be hard to do? I just don’t want to screw anything up.

Shinigami - Im not sure of your tuning history or knowledge, but how user friendly would you say the PRP is for a learning(noob) tuner? I'm ordering it tomorrow, and was wondering if its something that can be learned with a little know-how or if its extremely complex. Also, if you're using a wideband, which one and your thoughts on it? Don't mean to hi-jack the thread.

Jay

I REALLY need to get a wideband, its on my lisp or parts to get very soon. I started tuning my escort and tried to transfer what i knew to the Mach1...yeah that didnt work so well. Basicly I asked questions in the tuning section of mustang sites and on SCTflash.com and they helped me get better at it, but I know there is still SOOOOOO much to learn.

WHen you first get the PRP you are over whelmed with the new options/abilies you have, but after you figure out what you really need to look at its not really hard, just that you need to be very sure you want to make a change before you do.

Doesnt hurt that my friends dad is a very well known/popular tuner so I can bug a question every once in a while.

Yes, but what would be the point? and .5 is the SCT recomended value. Its not like you would use this when NOT racing. lol

Can I do this with a Predator tuner?
Yes. RWTD had it turned on in my Predator tune and I also had him turn it on when I got tuned with my XCal2.

It works fine. Helps my consistency at the track.

I have the "2-step" tuned into my car.. its a very nice feature, makes staging at the track much easier, but is tricky to use on the street. So far, Im very pleased!

quick vid of what it sounds like...
