Its interesting hearing each person's opinion on this. I guess i need to look at it how someone put it, the money that it would take me to get into a Cobra vs putting that money into the Mach.
Only having owned this car for about 6 months and not being an avid track runner, i had no idea that simple bolt ons + gears and tires could put this car into the deep 12s. Very interesting.
I just wish the Mach came stock with a fully forged motor haha
:lol::beer:But the Pinto is just for the track right? lol
you're comparing apples to oranges though. Not to mention you forgot about SOS's mach. Again you are talking about the stock mach block, which I completely agree with. No one disputes that. If you look at TOTAL price; the power of the two are so similar for the same price that it comes down to looks primarily after that. For the difference in cost of the car, you can forge the mach and put a blower on it and have the same power or more. ($6-8k pending) Come on man, let's not rehash this. :beer:I'm talking shortblock vs shortblock. The non-TEKSID al blocks are about the same as the Terminators iron block as far as how much HP it can hold- the same cannot be said for the bottom end. Since the heads/cams on Machs and Terminators are the same not much else to compare. It's a shame that the Mach doesn't have forged internals- then it would be on par with the Cobra.
My point with the Mach vs Cobra money debate is this. Look at Swervo's TTMach (one of the sickest on this board). After all was said and done his "kit" cost with install was around 11k. He had to upgrade his fuel system, clutch, and I think axles. The same kit on a Terminator would be about 2k less because there are less componants that you MUST upgrade (as opposed to should upgrade) Swervo got around 465 rwhp with that setup - the same setup in a Cobra will get you 725-750 rwhp. Yeah- in the longrun the Cobra would cost around 1500 more after initial purchase but an extra 300 rwhp for $1500? THIS is why many people want to get a Terminator!! Maybe the $ isn't a big issue for you....but for me it is.
I'm not saying it can't be done in a Mach- I'm not saying the Mach is a bad platform to start with. I love my Mach1, it's a great car. I just don't think it's as good a platform as a Terminator. That being said, I'm not goiing to bail on the Mach and get a Termi. That would be silly IMHO.
When you put FI on the mach, the weight difference is minimal. They are only ~200# difference and that gap is narrowed with the I/C, tubing, blower, etc. :beer: It's really a difference in CR at that point. I also disagree that a 500rwhp mach will hang with a 600RWHP cobra. But that's me.bottem line both great cars..cobra's are a dime a dozen..blown mach's are rare..a 500 rwhp mach1 will hang with a 600 rwhp cobra all day long..power to weight

I'm just saying your numbers are a little off. For achieving 450-500 RWP your argument is valid- for over that not so much. And no I didn't forget about SOS's Mach- also a VERY sick ride. But I'll bet that the F1R kit he's got is a bit more than 5k.
But enough. Both are great Mustangs. :thumbsup:
get a civic and call it a day...
Of course man. :beer::lol: Thanks for the props. And I agree with everything you said after that sentence.
NOt necessarily. That's all speculation really. If the Mach had forged internals, then it probably wouldn't have stayed N/A. Even if it did, there's no guarantee that FMC woudl have kept the machs 10:1 CR. And that's where the mach has the advantage. higher CR = same/more power with similar PSI as the cobra.its an extra 200 lbs sitting right in the nose of the car..big difference.. if the mach1 came with forged internals from the factory it would have out done the cobra as far as drag racing and thats what were alll talking about...
I'll just agree that enough is enough and both are great mustangs. Anythign else would be 'semantics' and IDW to go down that road. :beer:I'm just saying your numbers are a little off. :lol::lol::lol1::beer:F1A buddy. Linumup has the F1R. ......details.
I know that i personally was going to sell my mach for a cobra but after looking through dozens of cobra ads and staring at them over and over i realized that the mach looks alot more agresive and meaner, you dont see as many machs and its got the whole raw power thing going for it, I cant seem to want to part with her.
Too bad my divorce is going to force the sale of her but anyways the point is i love my mach and granted its not as fast as a cobra it feels more raw and edgey to me.
You're not alone.......join the club man.
Sorry to hear it.:beer:
Keep the Mach! You know where it has been and how it has been treated, you could buy a cobra that has been ragged everyday. You already have the basic cobra, just add a blower or turbo and have fun!
:lol::beer:
