T56 magnum at least. Def not a cobra T56. 1st gear too long. The only way i would say you could run 4.88 is if you are running the 1/8 only. Otherwise just go 4.56

The only way it will benefit from 4.88s is if you go with a 28" tire. Otherwise you'll run out of rpm.

I know this is an older post but I am considering getting with you for one of your intakes and was curious if you feel this way with a ported short runner as well? My old 96 went 12.0s with 4:88s on a 26 in slick and a home made short runner intake. I was launching at 6500-7000, shifting at 7000, and went through the traps around 7100-7200 IIRC. I currently have a different 96 but am getting ready for the good fall air and have 4:56s currently installed and was considering going back to the 4:88s since I had success with them before.

4.56 are the best gear for that combo.

Oh, and the DR's are WAY more clapped out now, than ever. Cords are almost showing. And on a track that was barely prepped.

I'm going to start making t45 swap kits for vipers and corvettes because the t45 is God according to this thread

I what way? I'm not stuck between a gear that is turning too many rpms , and a gear that is dogging the piss out of my motor on my way to work anymore

You obviously are not aware of the T45s capabilities. Also, no one said the T45 is better than a T56 did they? These two transmissions are very different and in no way can they be compared. The t56 is not a good drag race transmission, especially for an engine that has no low and mid range power. The T45 is a decent drage race trans and has a much better 1st gear set for a B headed, n/a engine. With that, I would not put a t45 in an 03/04 cobra as that car's low and mid range power would make 1st gear useless...even if it was built to withstand the power.

I know of no n/a cobras with T56s running 11s, but there are many in the running that quick with T45s and there are many more in that ET range with 3650s. My friends low 10 second fos has a T45source built T45 in it that shifts at 8000rpm and withstands 6000rpm launches so I know they can be made reliable and capable of withstanding high hp.

The T56 is a very strong and reliable transmission but like every component and mod, there isn't one solution for all combos and performance needs.

I had a t45 with 4.10s in my 96 cobra and not once did any of the gears dog the piss out of the engine. If you want a hwy trans then the T56 is your best option, but if you want to be quick you can save your money and keep the T45.

It's just annoying when people rag the dog s*** out of him for swapping a t56.

And I'm not the only one annoyed by it.. He is, he just isn't saying anything on here ;-)

I'm not "ragging on him." I was just making the point that the 2.66 geared, T56 isn't the best choice for a low tq engine where low ETs are the goal. If he had gotten the 2.99 1st gear set the car would have responded nicely to the swap.

26". If it ever goes, I will certainly change a few gear ratios around, to my advantage. :)

As well as a 1-4 faceplating and a .50 6th.

The only reason to faceplate would be due to the trans not wanting to shift at your shift point. I for one would not faceplate a street car trans.
