Hi, I have my 1997 cobra on here for sale and a member contacted me (via phone) who is a few states away. He said that he would give me the money via paypall and arrange for someone to pick it up. Or he would pay me via paypall and I could drop it off. My question is, is this normal? Im real old school and like cash in hand. I always hear about scams etc so wanted to ask you guys. Once i get the money in my paypal its a done deal right? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys!

id be leary about it. first, you'd have to pay 3% fee on whatever the selling price is. that can be a LOT if $10k.
im not sure, but i think you could open a paypal account using stolen CC info. not sure how that would ultimately play out in the end but...

is the member someone who's been registered here for awhile? posts often? has a sales record?

if theyre willing to pay for a car a few states away via paypal, tell him to do a wire transfer to your bank. very low costs for either party and it cant be done fraudulently (that i know of). sender just has 24 hours to cancel it. after that, its done!

I would probably take a deposit over paypal but theres no way I'd take the whole amount. Paypal is known to side with the buyer, so if he comes back and say he never got the car they'll refund his money.

Also you need to transfer the title with a notary present. How will that happen if he isn't there to pick up the car? Too much hassle.

Dont let paypal f you outta your money.

I sold a perfectly good dvd/nav stereo over paypal and the buyer messed it up when they tried to install it and guess who got screwed on that deal... ME

Use on online escort for an automotive sale if he can't come in person with cash or a certified check. Its safer for both parties actually. Split the cost with the buyer so nobody gets screwed.

Lots of uneducated posts in this thread. I've bought and sold several cars on ebay/clist and have used paypal every time. Don't be a dumbass and you'll be fine.

This would be me he is speaking of. Only reason I wanted to use PayPal is cause I have a very low interest line of credit open. I'm not here to shit on anybody. LOL. I'm not that person. I been here a while. I usually bought and sold on s197forum due to me having 2 s197s. I didn't have a problem paying in cash either, just don't have the 10 hours and people to take me. I don't have a problem with buying a car unseen either... Anything on a car can be replaced if I don't like it.

Just have him send you a personal check.

Wait until it clears (could take up to 2 weeks) then release the car.

Zero chance of fraud that way.

It's not that we are uneducated but there are safer ways to do it. Face to face cash in hand

Why cant the guy make a simple phone call and wire the money to your bank account? Plus there is no 3% fee with that.

Get a one way flight and drive the car back. Easiest to do and doesn't cost that much.

Why would you use paypal? You wouldn't even be able to withdraw all that money.

Just use bank wire transfer.

Exactly what the guy who bought my dads 300ZX last summer did. One way from El Paso, he showed up paid and signed the paperwork. Drove the car away and the deal was finished.

I flew my GF out to north Carolina to pick up my 04 and she drove it back to Texas since I was in Iraq at the time

First, Paypal is cool, but cash in hand is cooler. Last car I bought was a cash deal, and seller was prepared to walk away with empty pockets if I wasn't satisfied. I was, and he didn't.

Seller, not buyer. I'd bust your chops, but you're older than me.

:smmon:

You do know that this is the 21st century, right>???

Plenty of people buy cars and trucks sight unseen.

That might be one of dumbest things I have seen posted on here.

I can almost guarantee (going with the odds) that when it is time for me to get an 03/04 the chances of me actually getting to see it before I lay down the money will be very small.
