I used to have a built mustang, sold it to build a badass rx7. I've been in a lot of fast cars, but drag racing gets boring after a while.

The accell on the Rx7 is still great, but you do it a few times in a row and you're good for the day, drive it a week later and it still might be fun for a while.

Recently I got into stage rally racing. Bought a cheap celica specifically for racing, total even with the hans device and all the safety equipment i have less than $10k into it with a new engine and converting it to AWD (not necessary).

I can promise no other type of racing is more fun, i've done everything else, drag, autox, road racing,street... I suck at it, still doesnt matter. If anyone is serious i'd be more than willing to show some people the ropes, its not as difficult as it seems to get in.

Anyways here's some pics from two of the races i've raced this summer.

looks like fun . How did you convert that car to AWD? What drivetrain did you put in it?

I dont think rally racing is for me , but I often considered getting into that miata road racing class .

I got the rear end and tranny from a japanense GT4. Wasn't bolt in at all, had to make my own mounts for the subframe and the driveshaft. I made it work though.

I built my entire car, but that's just cause I like to. You can buy race ready cars for around $5-6k. Believe it or not, I was looking into spec miata racing before this. It came down to the fact that I asked my dad if he wanted to codrive if I do rally, he said yes.... so rally it was. Really good decision.

You can see the rear part of the cage, the triangles go through the floor and the rear subframe bolts to it.

I'd love to do something like that. I really love watching the TORC and LOORRS and looked into buying a ranger/s10 size truck to build into an off road race truck but couldn't find a good enough deal on one and realized I don't have the funds to do something like this while still in school.

When I get out I'll definitely be looking into doing something like this or with trucks.

It's competitive in 2wd...

The car doesnt make the times, the driver does... besides that neon has a lot done to it... it's not all about HP its about suspension and driving ability. My coilovers cost 4x more than my car when I bought it.

What do you think your annual budget is for this type rally racing, over and above the cost of the car itself? Definitely looks like a ton of fun.

Well, you have to think hotel for usually 2 nights, gas to get there, entry fee.

I'd say you're looking at around $1100 per event. However you're usually splitting that stuff with your co-driver. Soo $550 per event. The car is usually owned/upkept by the driver, but event stuff is usually split.

We're planning on doing 4 to 5 rallys a year. So i'm looking probably around $3k a year. Event costs are usually between $5-800. Seems expensive, but usually the rallys are 100+ stage miles of all different roads. It takes a lot to put something like this on.

and im positive that my nova would dump all over your rx7...whats your point.

i read what you wrote. you said drag racing got boring after alittle while.well you have only ran 2 events in ralley car. how do you know that wont get boring to you after alittle while also. my point was dont throw an entire sport under the bus just because you are a fickle fan of racing sports. hell a few years ago you prolly wanted to get rid of your mustang and start drifting. oh look you went and bought an rx7......

I've drag raced for years, it gets boring. It lasts for a few seconds at a time.

Whats funny is in two races I probably have more racing time than you do in your whole life in drag... hard to get much seat time a few seconds at a time.

Man would I like to do that - - I had so much fun watching the rallies in Belgium. I wouldn't be able to travel though as I'm sure that would include having to buy a trailer and truck to pull it $$$$
