I dunno Dale.....I know that you are not trying to spend a lot of money on fixing this thing but don't you think it would be best to just put new parts in or rebuild yours? I mean again, this guy is selling a used motor, he says it's good but who know whats going to happen when you put it in and fire it up. No matter what the guys says you don't know how the motor was treated and blah blah blah.....I would think it would be best to just build it right, with NEW parts so you don't run into the same problems.......I mean Scott got a reman'ed from Ford for only a couple bucks more, comes with warranty too! What would be wrong with that?

If you have a loan on the car and have to keep insurance on it just get comprehensive insurance that covers acts of God, theft and other things. Comprehensive is inexpensive compared to collision.

Best wishes in your choice, I hate being in situation like your in.

I did this during my Procharger build. It saved a good chunk of money.

Yup, the guy wants $2700 for a built longblock with 3k miles on it. Kind of hard to pass up. I'm trying to get more information on the company that built it, then somehow try to get the engine inspected if that's the route I want to go. It really just depends on feedback from the seller and seeing how much damage is really done to my motor.

What are you going to do with your existing Teksid motor Dale? I sure would like to get 75lbs off the front end of my car.

Bump for carnage pics.

Jason and I pulled the engine yesterday and started taking it apart. The results were not pretty.

-compare the spacing of the cam lobes to the towers on the top and bottom cams. the cams actually contacted the towers and ground material off the towers.

Wow Dale.......We got that one pretty good now. Try and salvage or just replace????

Not sure yet Dwight, trying to get a few opinions. The block is already bored 0.030" over and a guy at L&M engines says that's as big as he's seen on Teksid blocks. Said if there is any scoring on the cylinder walls, it's not usable. There are quite a few scratches in the wall, including at least one big line that you can feel, so I'm afraid the block might be toast.

As for the head, I guess I'd have to take it to a shop to see if they can repair that much damage. Talking with the original builder, he said it might be salvagable, but we'll see.

Hopefully the rest of the bottom end is fine like the crank and rods, plus the other 7 pistons and the driver's side head. Looks like I'll need new cams though, which won't be cheap.

Geezy peezy. Did that thing drop both exhaust valves on that cylinder? It looks like one of them was upside down through the hole in the piston...

Did you get a look at what broke allowing the cam to walk like that? So much for the hope of it being minor damage...

mike, yes, both those valves. and actually, one of the valve stems is what was jammed against the cam not allowing it to turn.

Yup, gonna take a quarter and weld it in to cover the hole in the piston. I'll use Jason's angle grinder to smooth out the head surface, then throw a few new valves in there and put everything all back together

The engine was a combo build. One shop did all the head work, another did the shortblock, and yet another put it all together and in the car. So who takes the blame :??: Apparently me. :nonono:

I don't see any problem in using the rest of the rotating assembly in the new motor build. Clean it all up, get one new piston and get it all balanced, and it should be good as new. L&M engines told me that as well. When you get a flat tire, do you replace all four?
