Here's one key phrase that scares me just as much as the guys on the plane: "What I experienced during that flight has caused me to question whether the United States of America can realistically uphold the civil liberties of every individual..."

I would have def. been checking out the bathrooms and I would probably tell the flight attendents to tell the air marshalls to do something BEFORE it gets out of hand.

Even armed air marshalls probably wont be able to do a whole lot if they wait for something to happen. In that case, waiting for a bomb to go off.

To me, it sounded like if they did have a bomb, they were going to blow it up a few minutes before they landed. Has anyone here ever flown into LAX? When you land there, you make your approach over mostly residential areas...If they wanted to kill a lot of people, they sure were going about it the right way.

That's because El Al has been using Air Marshalls since the 70s, not to mention every employee has extensive anti-terrorism training. El Al has their shit together because they have to, they don't waste their time with PC bullshit either.

Damn, i have been on quite a few planes with a handful of arabs and never felt a true threat before. I would always keep my eye out for suspicious things, but in this kind of a situation i don't know what i would have done. Sure did seem like a dry run of some big plot.

If they could coordinate an attack like that to blow up 5-10 jetliners at the same time, boom there goes the U.S. airline industry and down with the economy for a LONG time. What worries me is them being able to place some sort of chemical or bio weapon in those bombs so it spreads into the air when they blow up (i.e. over homes before landing in LAX as someone mentioned previously).

I think when this kind of threat exists, racial profiling is unfortunately a necessity. I mean what is the average description of a terrorist, my grandmother or that 30 year old Syrian dude?? I traveled last year with a classmate who was from Egypt, and he got stopped several times by airport security and questioned. Did i feel bad? Kind of, because i knew him and knew he wasn't a terrorist, but on the other hand I felt a little relief that the boys in blue were actually paying attention. It's a tough, tough call. :nonono:

Because unless NW wants to be fined UP THE A$$, half of the story is BS. If 7-9 people got up at the same time right before landing like she stated and refused to sit down ( which is another hole I find to be complete BS. Not one was told to sit? Give me a fugging break) Standard Operating Procedures madate that

A. The closest A.T.C is notified and the airplane will be escorted to the closest airport by the United States Military.

B. "If" the US Air Marshalls were on board like she stated (Another HUGE hole, as you (Flight Attendant) CANNOT tell ANYONE they are on your flight, not to mention this lady passenger) They would have reacted immediately, as this is EXACTLY what they are trained for.

THis is just one instance in her story I found so hard to believe. I actually chuckled reading it. Am I saying it didn't happen? No, what I'm saying is ALOT of her story has holes in it. All airlines are required by law to follow certain procedures in flight. One of them is having EVERYONE in their seat right before landing and takeoff. If for any reason this instruction is not followed there are steps that will be taken to ensure the safety of the passengers, crew and the United States of America.

If you think for one second Northwest Airlines decided not to follow any of these rules on this particular flight you are sadly mistaken.

I could pick apart this story for hours there are so many holes. Another food for thought; Not too long ago a airplane was escorted back to the gate because a passenger was being rude to a flight attendant and wasn't ready to sit down. He was arrested immediately. But nothing happened to any of these men who broke quite a few Federal Laws while on this flight? BS......

I would have to agree with above the only way we will get terriost is by some kind of profiling. It is very sad but we have to do what is necessary. If all that story was true then dame thats scary.

Sounds like you don't know shit but are pretending to.

Unless you elaborate in detail as to why we should believe you, there's no point in you making your statement.

This is similar to the people that say things like "Well I can't tell you whom I work for but I KNOW this and that about this and that because of my super secret clearance."

If you're in a position like that, you should be intelligent enough to know that simple rhetoric is not enough. Elaborate or be called a liar.

Edit....nevermind, he elaborated before I finished posting! :D

Thanks Griffen! That is what I wanted to hear. You made some very good points.

I am still undecided though........

Think we could get a responce from one of the people mentioned in the story?

"There were 14 Syrians on NWA flight #327. They were questioned at length by FAM, the FBI and the TSA upon landing in Los Angeles. The 14 Syrians had been hired as musicians to play at a casino in the desert. Adams said they were scrubbed. None had arrest records (in America, I presume), none showed up on the FBI's no fly list or the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists List. The men checked out and they were let go. According to Adams, the 14 men traveled on Northwest Airlines flight #327 using one-way tickets. Two days later they were scheduled to fly back on jetBlue from Long Beach, California to New York -- also using one-way tickets. "

is it really that odd that 14 people, know eachother, talked to eachother, went to the bathroom, and couldn't get seats next to eachother on an airplane? This particular group of men, who knew eachother, talked to eachother, used the bathroom, and couldn't get seats right next to eachother to everybody else's satisfaction, were Arab.

I have not broken any FAA madates, only passed along blanket procedures for airlines. Now if I posted up the SD then you would have a point.

And I could really care less if you believe me or not;-) I have no reason to lie about any of this stuff to people who have no clue in hell about airline security or lack there of.

I didn't mean to get in your face, just thought they would've wanted more ambiguity, but then again, not my place to say...

you live your life by probability, not by possibility. Therfore, racial profiling/statistics is accurate and effective.... so do it.

No problem. I take my job and the safety and security of our nations airlines quite seriously. When I read stuff like that artical, which clearly had some questionable journalism in it, I will let the facts be known.

I'm sure what she said, happened. But how she reported it just made for really good reading, if you get what I am saying.

I'm surprised she didn't mention they were screaming "Praise Alla" as they were walking down the isles, corrigating at the back of the plane (which would also NEVER happen).

eh, that's a very compelling arguement, however, I think you're trying to say ARE accurate, not is accurate... jk, what you're saying makes total logical sense however, certain people would lose freedoms in doing so, and true Americans have proven to be willing to do ANYTHING to defend their's and their fellow citizens' freedoms. to say that you're not willing to stand inline along with other fellow citizens and deal with a more lengthy security proccess at the cost of civil liberties goes against core values in this country.

It is not up to me as a typical civilian airline passenger to "prevent" anything that the authorities, i.e., the Air Marshals or airline folks should deal with prior to boarding. It is my responsibility as a citizen to inform the proper people that something is going on that may precipitate a dangerous incident.
Being a vigilante is out of the question, unless something happens that would help and Air Marshal out.
If something does devolve into a bad situation, then who knows how it may manifest itself?

Would the people responsible identify themselves and allow the Air Marshals time to defuse the situation?

Probably not. It would be simpler to silently go about their business, scream "...Allah-ul akhbar..." at the last second, and finish it. No time for reactions.

They would never have gotten in the country, let alone an airplane if I had my way ... but then again, I'm not such a nice, PC-kind of guy.:mj:

YES it is your job to prevent, to your utmost ability a terrorist act AGAINST YOU and or your FAMILY.. I guess you forgot those famous words spoken over Pennsylvania on United Flight 93... "LETS ROLL"
