I have a 2010 gt500 with 6k on it and the car makes 650rwhp with the help of a trinity. I am looking at tire recommendations. I have another mustang that makes mid 400s and running MT ET Street/SS and don't like how they corner.

I am leaning towards R888R on the rear but unsure what to run in the front. I plan on turning up the power to mid 700s and just want something to hold 2nd/3rd. I understand the R888R make some road noise and fine with that. I don't want to run R888R all the way around. I was thinking of the Michelin Pilot 4S. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Another option would be to run nitto Nt05R in the rear and Nt05 in the front to keep similar tire matching.

Not sure how big of a tire you plan to run but nitto 555R/R2 in the rear and 555/G2 in the front.

+1 on the NT05R, but it also depends on the wheel /tire size you're running.

Michelins are a great tire and manufacturer, but a Pilot Sport wont fair well trying to put that power down from a dig. Is this a street/canyon carver or more of a road race car?

On mine I have MT ET streets in back and MPS in front. MT > Nittos/Toyo if you are more strip than street.

Op...not sure where you are located. If it rains like here in Ga with pop up showers, and damp roads from time to time....r888 is compliant under wet conditions. Just in case

I run r888s (285/35) and MPSS up front (275/35)
700rwhp

Im at 755rwhp and I run 555G2s out front and 305 555Rs out back and am able to manage if I run around 32 psi or so on them.

If you drive you car a lot the 555Rs have been great in rain 0 issues that is why I went with them because I daily the car.

If I didn't id do the NT05Rs

I just got Toyo R888R's on the rear of my 13 GT500 with the stock Goodyears up front. I love the Toyo's! It hooks very well in 2nd gear, decent in 1st gear once they get a little heat in them. There is a small amount of road noise on the highway but nothing unbearable. Couldn't be happier with them.

If you are concerned with handling like a track car, get R888's
Otherwise, I am riding on almost 29" tall ET S/S on 20's and they honestly do not corner badly like I thought they would. Not the same as a stiff sidewall, but it is pleasant to drive on other than the WOT sway.

Im at 770 rwhp. I run 305/45/18 555rwith 18-20 tire psi. It will hold wot in 1st till about 3000-3300, short shift to second and wot no spin at all on the street. At the track 1.82 60 ft times. Tried nto5r and would not hold 2nd, and spin 3rd some times. I heated them changed air pressure and could not make them work on my car. 555r for me. They last about 5-8k per year.

If your not going to launch at every stop the 4S will be fine and are by far the nicest tires of the bunch

I am in a similar situation. I am going to go with the Toyo's out back. I have the 555Rs now and they have been okay. I'm a little over 700rwhp.

Just how good are Toyo R888 in wet weather? There are time when it is raining and really do not want to go slippin and slidein all over the road. I know they do not have much of a tread pattern so was wondering.

I think the old R888's atleast are awesome in the rain compared to like NT05's or Drag radials. I wold have full confidence in the rain. Shit I drove mine in extremely light snow flurries once with them.

What PSI are you running on the street?

I have been trying different things each time I go out. I am finding they tend to like less pressure to combat sway. I had them at 24PSI Saturday for some roll races and for the most part wasnt too much an issue. They were dead hooking on my new pulley and tune with 100 octane with just a little bit of lightness feeling on the top end. No sway this time, but just a little bit of wheelin if you know what I mean. If I were to venture to guess this was 700-725whp range that night.

I have MT street SS's out back 305-35-18. Runnin them at 20psi everywhere I go. Haven't spun once, dig or roll runs. Had em about a year. I'm making 730+ to the wheels. I'm never going back to any other radial.
