Anybody install their own (True-Trac)?

Also, anyone install without axle upgrade? I have about 630 to the tire and I understand the GT500 axles are pretty good to begin with. No slicks but will occasionally run drag radials. Might eventually upgrade them but would like to defer for a bit.

No axles for me...the installer of the gears/tru track said there wasn't enough strength difference to make it worth the expense.

I installed my own Trutrac, but I've also been doing gear swaps and rear end builds for years. It's a reasonably simple install if you have access to side shims. Mine needed the the backlash adjusted when I installed it, but every rear end will be different.

The stock axles are strong, but do have their limits. Aftermarket axles like Mosers are much stronger, but not always needed. I found out the hard way that they're not as strong as we think. This is my axle from a few weeks ago (just over 800rwh, 3.73's, Trutrac, slicks, and 3500-4000 rpm launch):

I'm an automatic and way below the 800 rwhp threshold.....so hopefully it will be fine.

Y'all are quite good at adding things to my desired mods list. I've got the power I want and now I need to work on controlling it.

I'm still debating the FR part vs. Trutrac but I definitely need to get one of them.

Given the lack of slicks/DR (I prefer road racing), I'm thinking I can live without axles.

Why does the mod list never get shorter? :poke:

When I layed my oem and Moser side-by-side, the main difference I noticed was that the Mosers were the same larger diameter all the way to the end of the splines and the oems narrowed down in the area where your axle broke. I believe that is the common problem with the oems............when they do break, it is where they get smaller toward the spline end, the weak area.
