427 side oiler

Oh, THAT way?!?!

I don't remember the side oiler being referred to as a 7 liter. Where I hung around it was simply referred to as a side oiler.

Now in '67 (I think it was?) Ford had a Galaxie 2dr Fastback that had a 428 C.I. motor that had a hood moniker designating 7.2 Liter. That was the earliest I can recall engines being named in liters? When the Pintos came out they were measured in CC's. 1600cc and 2000cc. Don't turn the air conditioning on if you're going uphill and you have an automatic!!!!

How do these threads in here get so off track?!?!?! ;-)

Before I get :burn: , I do agree about the '67 7L. I believe they were built in '66-'67. Hence the PIC above, I believe is a '66. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Since your B-day is the same wk as mine (Feb.11), maybe the OLD guy (in Colorado). Can evaluate the PIC above. Remember the tail lights were taller on the '67. ;-)

I agree. The taillights on the '66 were more flat and vertical. In '67 they were elongated and leaned a little forward in a more streamlined manner.

correct, the 7-litre galaxies were made only for 2 years, 1966 and 1967, and was similar to the "XL" models, performance luxury vehicles

I believe the 428 was standard (I also think it was the PI) with a 427 as the "option" motor....

Bruce,

'66-'67 were both 428ci for sure. I think they were referred to as "Police Intersepters" (PI).

Gene:

When did they stop making the 427?

I was just starting to get into cars in '66. I was a youngster, only 14. I do remember trying to talk my Dad into a big block when he ordered his '66 Custom! He said "Are you out of your mind?"

Too bad he didn't bite, it ended up being my first car and I stuck a 406 in it when I was 18!!! :pepper: :pepper: Just a dumb kid with a fast car and drum brakes!! Hey, at least I never piled it up!!!

I was born in 66, but growing up, I clearly remember the "family car" a 65 Galaxie 500XL with a 352 BB....unfortunately, to get that car, my dad traded in his 63 galaxie 500XL, black with red buckets and console, with a 406 and 4spd, probably worth around 60K in restored condition today :fm:

I believe the last year for the 427 was 1967, as the 428CJ kind of took the place of the 427

I'm not 100%, but I think it was '68 for production veh. They still had it in NASCAR. I've heard of some documented '68 Mustang Drag cars with the 427, and a friend of mine had a '68 Shelby GT-500 'vert C-6/427. '69 was the start of the 429ci for performance, so the 427 was out, I think.

My $.02
