I used to be into building rigs. I got out of it for awhile then got back into it early this year.

Full tower CM case
Rampage Extreme
3960X OC'd 4ghz stable, (have reached 4.8 under 1.4v)
32 DDR3-1600 ECC/Reg
2 EVGA 780s in SLI

Now it just sits here, I browse the internet on it maybe a couple times a week. I built it to handle 3D surround gaming, (3 VG278HE 144hz monitors). but now I'm 3 thinking 3 4K monitors would be pretty sweet.

Pieced together a starter gamer PC for my 10 year old daughter today. I am going to buy all the parts for a rig for Christmas and wrap em up. She won't have much of a clue. Then I am going to help build it with her. Ordering the parts really got my fingers itchy to build myself something again... so don't be surprised to see me in this thread shortly with another dumb build.

I was trying to keep a 500$ budget for my daughters (no monitor). I wanted to do a black n red theme to go with her room. I like the case actually.

Sapphire Radeon R7 260X 2GB GDDR5 HDMI/DVI-I/DP OC Version
MSI ATX DDR3 2133 Motherboard 970 GAMING by MSI
SanDisk Ultra Plus 128GB SATA
Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM - Black (HX316C10FBK2/8)
Thermaltake Commander MS-I Epic Edition VN400A1W2N-B No PS Mid Tower Case (Black/Red)
EVGA 500W 80PLUS Certified ATX12V/EPS12V Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR
AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition

Should be a decent running little machine for her. All her friends have crappy little dells. She has a laptop but that has a hard time even with Minecraft. She will be smoking (will run minecraft with shaders for her). Dads geeking out.. can't wait to have that little bit of time with her to build it.

I myself have been looking for Black Friday deals, but I have not found anything that stands out to me.

I have been watching a lot of YouTube video reviews to find the next case that I want to purchase. I used to want an NZXT Switch 810, but after watching reviews, I am going to purchase a Phanteks Enthoo Primo.

I am telling you, if you have the time in the evening, watch a good review video on YouTube that showcases the case from every single angle of the case. I mean, like a 20 to 30 minute video of the case. You will be amazed at what this case has to offer for ~ 250 USD.

Edit: Some quick things about this case that I think are amazing for 250 bucks. I am missing a lot of good points I'm sure.
  1. Ability to EASILY mount a push/pull 480/420 mm rad on both the top and the bottom of the case
  2. Ability to EASILY mount a push/pull 240/280 mm rad on the front and the "cable management" side of the case
  3. Easy to clean dust filters on almost every honeycomb "grille", with some of the dust filters being magnetic, so as to easily be removed and reattached
  4. Every fan hole is pre-drilled for accept a 120 or 140 mm fan
  5. Comes with two pre-drilled zones for tube style reservoirs
  6. Comes with four additional two-pin LED controller wires that are already wired into the built-in LED controller
  7. Comes with a PWM fan splitter that is ready to accept I believe five or six more fans
  8. Power supply is mounted in the back in the "cable management" area to be hidden from view and to make wiring easier
  9. Comes with an anti-vibration mount pre-drilled for the infamous MCP655 / Laing D5 pumps that can be moved to other areas
  10. Comes with toolless SSD mounts that can be moved around the case for customization
  11. Almost everything in the case is modular to allow one to move something to another location or remove it completely to another case

I'm looking to build a new PC. Not sure what to get but don't want to spend too much money. Looking at maybe $700 to $800 to get a new CPU going with my old case and monitor. Any opinions? I saw a pretty good combo deal on New Egg but wasn't sure whether to get it now or wait until tomorrow. I don't want anything fancy, just something that can get the job done running games like Rome Total War 2.

I'm also looking to get Rome Total War 2 for a good price for a copy of it and not just a dl.

Well, what's ur current setup? If you have a decent board with a fairly current socket, you could easily upgrade the cpu and a new gpu for anywhere between $400-500 if i understand what you're saying right

My current setup is pretty old, in which I've been limping along with only one memory stick since I couldn't get the other one to work. Found out too late it wasn't working for me so couldn't send it back. =-/. I've just been playing older games on it since then and oddly enough it has been working fine. lol

But yeah, you are right, I'm going to keep the old monitor and case for now. I may get a new hard drive to consolidate down to one.

Well I ordered the parts for my daughter the other day. I changed a few things around including bumping the card up to a r9 280. 550 with taxes which wasn't bad IMO. Had the granma order a nice ASUS monitor for her.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($66.69 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $546.63

Now I have been doing my research for my build. I might order something today. I am thinking about doing a SLI 970 rig :D So far these are the builds I have laid out, (military themed/colors). Go big or go home... My plan is finding a nice 1440p monitor that can be overclocked. The only other choice is the 800$ ROG 1440p 144hz monitor... uggghhh

So, I really know nothing about building computers or even buying one off the shelf. I've never owned a computer before. I always had one from school or used my ex's laptop. But winter is here and I thought it was about time to join the modern world. I just made some guesses and spent some money.

Can anyone tell me if this looks like it should work together? I am hoping it does, but I dont expect to have done everything correct haha.
And how does cooling work? Does this require some sort of system or do the built in fans do the job?

P.S. This is mainly going to be used for some high level Photoshop and 3D CAD modeling.
