Mine isn't fully painted underneath but I've had mine off for a while now and I hardly ever run hood vents

Is it really worth taking those vent flaps off? I may just get some aftermarket vents at some point. I drove my car yesterday temps int the mid 80's and didn't see any difference in coolant temp.

well...you definately want the flaps open, otherwise having vents there is pointless and it isnt extracting much heat with them closed either.

however, i personally did not cut my flaps off. as ghetto as it sounds/is i got some sticky ass clear tape that you would tape boxes with and taped mine back, where they are open 24/7. but...the flaps are still there, incase i ever do want to close the vents (for whatever reason).

Well guys I took my insulator off for a bit, was going to get a new one through tousley for 83 bucks, but now I'm starting to like not having it on there. The underside is pretty scratched up in areas. My friend used to be a painter at a body shop. Might consider going that route.

will taking the blanket off cause water to go though the vents and cause the car to miss out or mess something eletrical up?

I doubt it. Mine doesn't see rain, but after I wash the car I pop the hood and dry off any components that are wet. Its mainly the front area of the engine that gets some water on it.

the increased heat on the underside of the hood *over time* **may** cause spiderwebs on the paint, both on the underside and topside of the hood.

If you remove your liner, yours may never spiderweb, but its not out of the question. Ive seen it happen before.

I've heard of this, mainly in FL, TX, HI and places hot and humid. To be safe, during the summer/hot months when the engine is really heated up, when I get home and put it back in the garage, I always pop the hood and let it cool down without any heat directly hitting the hood. Don't want to take any chances with mystichrome paint.

Took mine off recently - it was looking ragged.

So I took it off.

Found that little strip of tape, and took that off too, not sure why...

Oh - and I do feel the liner actually did damage to the hood....

Anyways - it is never going back on.

Car is a daily driver for those who care to know - it is driven in all weather situations seen in Texas - which includes heat and rain and a day or two of snow.
