I didn't realize that was Amzoils company. I think I'd rather have an independent lab do the testing that has no affiliation with any motor oil manufacturers.

An easy assumption to make, as I have done in the past, but now...the rest of the story.

Oil Analyzers Inc. is owned by AMSOIL, that part is true, but here is what most people don't know.

Polaris laboratories is actually who does all the testing and reports.

Polaris

OAI is actually Polaris under an umbrella. Read the quote from Polaris to understand how it works.

Simply put, you get to say that it's your lab on the letter head, but an independent company is doing the unbiased testing for them.

So, I trust to get a fair analysis from them no matter what oil I send in. Especially since their name is an Acronym.

Performance Oil analysis Laboratories And Reliable Information Services.

Look who else uses them.

Other Companies

Amsoil does not Own Polaris labs.

Shady said it best, in a nut shell.

I'm not saying anything negative about either Polaris or Amsoil, just figured since Blackstone seems to be so popular and consistent as well as clearly independent, I'd stick to that. I ordered the kit earlier today. So, guess that's what I'm going with.

After reading all this I feel like such an idiot for using the Motorcraft spec oil :burnout: I am just about to hit 2k on the odometer and I first changed at 1K. What do you recommend?

Don't I started another thread on 5w-50 oils. Hopefully we will find the best ones to use. I think if a few guys try different oils and then send them in for UOA's we can determine the best ones to use in the car. I will get the schaffers 9000 or other brand run it for 2000 miles and then send it in for analysis.

Once again, look at the cSt@100*C (12.82). THAT'S TERRIBLE!!! THIS WAS ONLY A 30 WEIGHT OIL AT ONLY 6,000 MILES OF USE!!! UNACCEPTABLE SHEARING!!! The oil spec'd cSt@100*C at 21.0 (virgin analysis). This is the second sample that has proven that the FoMoCo 5W-50 is an inferior product and should be avoided at all costs.
According to this chart and table ... I believe 12.82 cSt is at the low end of a 40 grade oil (12.50-16.29 cSt) ... just an observation

Viscosity Charts

Low 40, Heavy 30....it's close to the line. Thanks for posting that, I was trying to recall it from memory. Some reason I was thinking 13 was the change over, oh well...memory FAIL! :-D

Still too much shearing going on none the less.

Not damaging his engine, but there are better choices to be made. I think enough of us have band together to create a web of Oil Analysis results to see what we should be using. Results in the near future. We will have to create a dedicated thread for it.

Summit sells Red Line products but they don't seem to carry the 5W50 weight. I inquired with Summit by email to see if they can get it.
I received a reply from Summit today ... they cannot order the Red Line 5W50.

Jegs carries it though.

I think the basic premmis here has been a bit blown out of proportion. I don't think anyone here is claiming that using Motorcraft oil is going to ruin your engine. In fact, what most of us are trying to convey is that not using it will also NOT blow your engine and further, regardless of what internet hype may depict it's not the best option. There are other oil options available that will better serve the long life of your engines internals and may not specifically meet the "B" spec that is often misunderstood and even more often taken way beyond it's scope of reason.
There are some that will continue to use it simply because Ford says they should and ultimately there's nothing wrong with that, but there are also some that will seek other options for a multitude of reasons and there is just as little wrong with that as there is with the later.
There are WAY more things to concern yourself with if your worried about warranty claims denial than the oil you choose. Those that continuously claim that Ford absolutely will deny your claim due to the oil your using are simply regurgitating Internet BS unless they have a personal experience to share which I'm willing to bet are very few and far between with more to the story than is being reported.

I've been running the Mobil 1 15W-50 for the last 22,000 miles. 28,000 on the car now. Unfortunately, I just changed the oil, but next go around, I will send it in and get it tested. Until then, the spec sheet is here Mobil 1 15W-50 and I'd like to get your opinion on the specs Unleashed...

Unfortunately, Exxon Mobil doesn't release enough information on their spec sheets, and consider it "G14 classified" information. Since it's an API SM formulation, I know the ZDDP ppm is capped at 800 ppm, which is too low for my comfort. The base stock used is not disclosed, but from previous investigations I know most of Mobil 1 is group III. They also do not disclose additive (TBN) content on this oil. Only a UOA would provide enough information to determine how well this oil was performing in your engine. I look forward to seeing your UOA results.

As noted above Jegs does have the Redline 5W/50 in stock. Quarts are $10.99 and Gallons are $42.99 each. Says it ships today.

Just got my 7 quarts in the mail yesterday...

Waiting on my filters to arrive next... Any thoughts on the Ford Racing FL820S' filters and the claims over the stock elements?

Thanks!

Checked on Oil Filters for the GT500:
Mobil1 and K/N are between $11, AutoBarn-$13, Autozone
Amsoil on their Web-site $17.30 list price
Ford Racing Filter $12.95 at The Ford Source
FL-820 $ 4.00 Wally World
Lots of choices and pricing...
