I am a newbie, but wanted to let you know that I own a 2011 Shelby GT500, SVT package. I have the same problem others with the transmission. I filed a lemon law complaint with bbb aginst ford for not have a fix for the problem. I was told a month later that ford had a fix for the transmission 1st..2nd gear grind. I took my Shelby the dealership in north ala. on Monday 14th of Nov. 2011 to allow them to fix the problem. There was another person behind me in line to have his same problem as mine. The dealership called the guy that was in line with me and they told him to come and pick up his car because ford does not have a fix for the car. He told them about my car as having the same problem and they told him that my car was going to be a ginnie pig car, and that I had a claim against ford and they only had about 2 weeks to fix it. I turned around and called the dealership and told them not to touch or drive the car and I will pick it up the next morning. The service manager told me he would take care of it. I got to the dealership the next morning around 11am. I asked if the Field Service Enningeer had gotten there this morning and was told yes. I ask to speak to him and myself, service manager, and the FSE went behind closed doors and then the FSE said he had already fixed my car and I turned around and ask the service person of what I had said and he said that he told the shop forman of what I said andthe service person told me the it had been done without his knowlege. I was very upset and the FSE said that I had to give him one chance to fix the car by law, at which time I told him not if I did not want him too. He then said that it has already been done and that was that.
I left the dealership mad,, I got about 5 miles from dealership and then I started off in 1st gear and about 3500 rmps shift to second and guess what happen, it GRIND!! I called the dealership to let them know that changing out the shifter assimbley did not fix the problem. Now I am waiting to go to arbitration with ford in December. I will let everyone know what happens
maaaan i can say this 10.0000000 quadrillion trillion million times....GET A WOTBOX! it circumvents the entire problem...bang away every single gear at anytime, no boost loss because you foot is planted through the floorboard.....if you take your car to the dealer they will just fark it up even more or they will give it back to you with the exact same problem......Ive had mty 2010 for 1.5 years Ive had it down the drag strip about 100 times and I have yet to miss a shift or EVER have an issue because of the wotbox......i started at 350 ms to get use to it, then went to 250 ms and then 200 then 150 and finally just put it to auto so it works as fast as you can powershift.....anyway nuff said...screw messing around with fixes and get the wotbox! PERIOD!
Who told you it was installed backwards ? You can't install a blocker backwards. It has a conical shape to it to add surface area. Now if the whole assembly was in backwards, it would grind all the time, not just fast. But the teeth that the blocker ring slows and engages, I have always seen as a singular attached to the gear itself. That makes it pretty damn hard to be in backwards. Not that I don't believe you, just wondering who told you that. I haven't taken mine out yet to see. But seems very odd. Here's a visual to help folks out on what's going on.I had my trans repaired, turned out the 1-2 blocker was installed reverse of what is was supposed to be. Mine shifts pretty well now, still a little notchy and you really need to make sure to grip it and rip it. That said how hard is it to install the WOT box? It it reversible? Do you need to be an electrical engineer to make it work?

In the pic, the slider is in the middle. When you shift, it goes front or back depending on. The first set of teeth like the second, are angle cut for street cars to help alignment. When it catches that ring, the pressure pushing forward will slow the gear, allowing it to engage.
Redirect Notice A race tranny on the other hand has directional teeth with no taper. Just a 90 deg wall. That way when it gets any engagement that f'er is going to GRAB. This is also why you can't shift them easy. It needs the speed to engage quickly with the least amount of grinding. When it wears out, pull it out, weld it back up and give it shape and put it back in.
This is what it looks like on the underside. That clutch material engages another cone shaped part on the gear.

The two pieces, the cone and the blocker ring can be seen in the pic as the two pieces to the left.

If you read some of the info on MGW's shifters about how they find the compromise with shifters on fast enough, but not too fast, this is why. You can make a shifter shift 10 times faster mechanically, but you still need to allow time for the blocker to slow the gear down enough to engage without grinding. Mine can grind a little sometimes too, and plan is to just putting carbon fiber lined blockers in it.
Not sure honestly. I just called asking if they had CF lined blockers yet for that tranny and he said they did. I'll do it and when I do the clutch. I'll let everyone know how it goes if no one beats me to the punch. The k-member didn't solve it like I thought it might. Thinking at first it may have been too much engine twist with a remote shifter. It happens, but wasn't the case here.
