I'm going to take a Cobra and add GT500 wheels, a Roush supercharger and a Saleen spoiler on the back.

What about the Canadian Cobra? Is it a real cobra?

You could say the same thing for the 350 and SS that come from SA. Throw a blower and some brakes, maybe a unique body panel give it a CSM and there you have it now it's a real Shelby what a croc.

If i remember correctly, Ford produced the Shelby GT500 for Shelby in the Ford Mustang factory from 1967 until the original end of GT500 production.

Seeing as that relationship continued again from 2007-14, they ARE Shelby GT500s with VIN code P8J as the designator as much as they are Ford Mustangs. As others have stated, Mr. Shelby was consulted on the cars and their updates until his death.

FoMoCo paid a pretty penny to secure, indefinitely, the sole rights to Shelby's name for OEM production.

I believe Cobra was derived originally from the Shelby Cobra having Big Block Ford power. As the 60s wore on, performance BBFs carried the Cobra-Jet badge in honor of that original Shelby pairing.

The Cobra II was i believe the first time that Cobra was adorned as a name for the vehicle and not just the engine.

I believe Ford retained the rights to the Cobra emblem after FoMoCo and Shelby American had their falling out. (Shelby Chryslers make me want to vomit....)

nah. i don't think it is really an svt, either, regardless of what the center caps say lol. if it were, it would have had an irs. svt actually designed an irs for the s197 and had fully developed prototypes ready for production.

as has been mentioned, svt as we knew it pretty much ended when coletti left, and the last vehicle svt was fully involved in engineering was the ford gt.

Engineered to be, but wasn't marketed to be. Therefore isn't

Right...because there isn't anything cobra related on the car

If your follow up reply is that it doesn't say cobra anywhere on the car, then I guess it isn't a mustang either since that isn't found on the car.

The fact is, SVT created this car as the next iteration of the Cobra. Hence why cobra badges are on it. Why bother having a cobra badge if it isn't cobra? Makes no sense.

If you feel good calling the 07+ cars cobras then have fun, us car people will continue calling them what they are :p

Been away from these cars for 25 years just got back into them but I know if it does not say Cobra on the car itself it is not referred to as such but thats just my opinion. Granddaughter calls my Shelby the snake car for reason of said badging. The word Cobra is never mentioned when talking about my car and the only Mustang outline I found on the whole car hidden in the top of the windshield blackout portion of the glass which I covered over with a white ford oval decal on the outside.
