Nice, let us know how it looks and feels.
Redoing the steering wheel with it will definitely test out the longevity of the vegan leather.
If you're gonna get it done, I'd have them do an FR500 steering wheel too.

So the fr500 will be the base for the mystochrome steering wheel? I thought it was a different type that came on the 10th and MC steering wheels?

It is. That's why I'm saying I would do one of each. The FR500 is a damn comfy steering wheel.
Plus, I doubt you would lose any money on it if you decided to sell it.

What's the part number for a MC steering wheel base? Not sure what to look for? Also wonder how many yards I'd need of the vegan leather?

I have no idea what the part # is. I would imagine an upholstery shop could put those extra bolsters onto a standard Mustang wheel, or so I would think.
Redline would do it for you for sure. Their shipping takes forever though, as their labor is done in Sweden or somewhere.

1 yard would cover quite a few steering wheels.

I have an extra set of the 03 charcoal set skins. I wonder if I took those and one day used the chameleon vegan crap to reskin the seats how it would look too? Hmm might be worth a shot just to experiment. Worst case I'm out like 700 ish.

Browse this thread for info on TMI's Mystichrome seats. CJ Pony Parts sells TMI's seats, but I don't see the Mystichrome on their site.

Tim should have some info regarding MC details.
I also would have 2-3 done if you find a solution. One to use one to keep as spare and if it turns out good, keep one to sell.
When I had my ‘04 I always wanted to try the FR500 wheel

I believe they actually did have genuine MC leather at TMI but I think all the hardcore MC owners bought them up.
If TMI still has some I’d be on the phone first thing tomorrow if you’re serious.

As I remember TMI bought all the Mystichrome leather Ford had left when the last Mystichrome was out of warranty. They had a list of people who wanted seats and offered them to people on the list until they sold out.

Yes, TMI acquired all the leftover original Garden State Tanners Mystichrome Leather. There was an announcement here years back that there wasn’t much left. I bought one of the last sets and asked that they threw in the scrap pieces. I ended up selling all the scrap pieces for more than I paid for the entire interior... it was a hot commodity. I also have a steering wheel that Dallas Custom Steering Wheels redid with original leather. It’s perfect. These items are simply not available any more unless you can pry them out of an owner’s hands and no, mine aren’t for sale. My Terminator only has 500 miles... not a driver, but it’s nice to have a full backup interior should I ever need it.

Now that you bring it up, I remember that thread as well as yours mentioning you buying a Dallas Custom steering wheel. You were fortunate, for sure, Tim. Just about impossible now to find that leather if you're looking to buy it. And you really do want the real leather if you want to keep a Mystichrome original.

Still less than 500 miles on yours, eh? (y)

Yes Bob. I’ve had 3 Mystichrome verts. First 2 were drivers at 14k and 4K miles. Should have kept #2 as it was mint with 4K miles. Number 3 has been sitting in my garage since I bought it. I drove it around the block once. Maybe I’ll get it registered and on the road some day… no plans to ever sell it.

Just curious why you've had three Mystichrome convertibles. Do you like convertibles over coupes in general? Some other reason? Did you ever consider a vert AND a coupe (Mystichrome) for your collection?

So I got the test strips of leather in from that etsy person. It actually matches the seat leather really well. I was impressed with durability (I torture tested the small sample piece quite a bit). Long story short I ordered all the material she had. Was about to place an order for 5+ yards of material as well. All for the vendor who makes and sells it through the etsy person to stop production due to staffing/covid reasons. The actual person who makes the leather is out of the game now. Which is perfect timing. Either way I got a decent amount to try and do some fun stuff with. Ill experiment on some shift knob wraps and maybe a wheel etc? Idk we shall see. Here is the comparison to the seat leather. Attached an imgur link for pictures, since they are way too big to post here.

What do you anticipate will be the wear factor with the vegan leather? Especially for seat covers. Should be interesting to see how they turn out.
