you know, if I left the door opened when I went to get some ice cream and someone came along and stole my 6500.00 masterpiece of design and technology.......no reply for that question....

what about the one where some jackass with no insurance cuts you off(classic hit and run) on that special day you took the kr to work? shelby has no answer for the question, how will my kr be repaired?

A person would probably have to do what a 2000 Cobra R owner would have to do in this situation, buy what is available from either Ford Racing or from the after market world. There are no correct original hoods for these cars either, but there are hoods that look similar and will serve the purpose.<<< But, they are not "correct originals".

hey everyone, look, its a 'lets hate on ford/shelby' topic!!!

Nothing could be further from the truth, AND not why I started this thread. I love my Shelby and without Ford/Shelby I would not have one, since I could not afford a classic.

However, I've paid my membership dues so to speak, and if I'd like to put something Shelby onto my Shelby, and can afford the price, I'd like to think I would be welcomed to do so, because I belong to the club.

You really want me to make you feel like a moron, ask me who has the say on whether or not the hood gets sold. :rollseyes

DBK, If I'm reading this post correctly, would that be you or your company? I think if these cost 6500.00 a pop, only a few crazy people such as myself would consider going this route. I think it would still be a very exclusive product. It would be great if you would consider this further. It's the hood the car should have come with all along, in my opinion.

Put the paint can down. Seriously, look at the chain of logic you just posted. Ford is in the tubes-->Won't compete with Challenger or Camaro if people can't buy KR hood-->People won't buy Mustangs because they can't make them exactly how they want-->food for thought-->I'm in super debt to make myself happy. Right on.

Yikes.

p.s, do yourself a favor, and ask yourself which car has the most ridiculous amount of aftermarket options on the planet. If there was one car on earth you shouldn't have chosen for this ridiculous attempt at coherence, it was the Mustang. Yeah, there's like nooo way to customize a Mustang to your liking, which is why they sell 100,000+ annually :rollseyes

DBK, if I'm reading your post correctly, would that be you or your company? I think at 6500.00 a pop, only a few nut jobs would consider going this route. It's the hood the car should have come with originally IMO. Please, if you do have any pull, put in a few good words for the car guys.

I would think that most anyone interested in gaining the KR look for their car would opt to buy the Super Snake Fiberglass hood which is readily available, and far less money. Yes, there would be a few who would shell out the big $$$ for the real KR item, but far more, would choose to spend far less. I also believe that "if" the big bucks were to be spent on a KR hood and it was installed on a non-KR, the $$$ return at sale time would be pennies on the dollar, but "it looks good".

Hmmm ... I *think* this is what he means:

A man has a dream...and his dream is to one day own a Shelby GT-500KR... Unfortunately, this man is dirt poor... and he can only afford a V-6 Mustang Coupe.

This man has an idea!!! The man thinks to himself "I'll buy my V-6 coupe... and add the GT-500KR and have everything I ever wanted!!!!"

He makes his way down to the Ford dealer... finds out he can't buy the hood he wants... and says F*** Ford! I'll buy a Challenger! :??:

OH.... Wait??? Yeah if that guy can't afford a Mustang GT-500... well then he can't afford a Challenger either... Yeah I guess I don't know what the hell DBK is trying to say either....

BUT!!! 50 years from now.... if Ford is bankrupt.... well know two things for sure: Ford should have sold that KR hood.... and DBK... although obscurred and confusing as hell..... was right!

how is dbk confusing? the other guy will not buy a mustang because he would not be able to customize it. :bash: except for one small problem, the ford mustang is probably the most customizable car in the world. how many magazines does it have selling only mustang aftermarket parts?

Ha, no, I wish it was mine. The decision to sell or not sell the hood is one that needs to be cleared by SAI, not Ford. Or rather, jointly, which it won't be for the foreseeable future.

"This is a Shelby product, This car is built with ford, we both agree or we don't do it, The hood will not be sold without the car" - Amy Boylan, the "boss" at Shelby Automobiles

It's a great looking hood, but the production process is so intricate that it just doesn't make sense financially to produce regardless of what the market is. There are dramatically more pieces of CF involved on this hood than something like the ZR-1 piece.

I hope the future mustangs take the shelby name off them and become just an svt product, not a shelby/svt gt500.

Is there a sign on the front door of the GT500 forum that says:

"PLEASE ENTER HERE FOR FORD/SHELBY HATE POSTS!"

If there is a link I'm missing can someone please post it up for me so I can investigate it!?! :rollseyes

this is why ford is going futher and further down... witht he Challenger and Camaro in the horizon, FORD had better get their act together before they get pushed out of the market

HUH!??!

cuz they hold a patent on it dumbass... its stuff (expensive parts) like this that hold people back from buying cars, they figure why should i bother cuz ill never have it the way i want it... food for thought... but i guess some people like you will go into SUPER DEBT to make yourself happy :rollseyes

Save it for Smackdown!

hey everyone, look, its a 'lets hate on ford/shelby' topic!!!

I'm going to find that sign referenced above and remove it! :cuss:

I'm trying my very best to stop this thread from getting off topic. It IS NOT a hate Shelby/Ford thread. The question is worth asking, and form member input is worth seeing on the question.

The fact is, you can purchase GT500 parts from Shelby. That means cloning of the GT500 must be ok wth them despite their claims cloning devalues real Shelbys. You can not buy parts for the KR/Shelby GT from their site to protect the value of real Shelbys.

If you've purchased a GT500, are you not part of the family? If you are, should you not be able to put any Shelby part on any Shelby mustang, assuming you're willing to pay $$$$ for the honor to do so?

:shrug:what would it matter? cervinis or some other company will make a version, sell it for $600 and call it their KR500 hood or something like that

I agree, someone else will just make a clone of the hood, probably some rip off China Clone, so yes Ford should make the orginal hood avalible to the public.

Update: According to Shelby they are the victims just like every other GT500 owner, it's Ford who won't sell the hood to the general public, and not them........

Since Ford could care less about who they sell GT500 parts to, I'm thinking something else is going on.......

Maybe once all the KR mark-ups have been but away safely in the bank, Ford will release the hood into their parts bin.....if they need the money......

But I don't think they would ever double-cross KR owners......

this is why the hood wont be sold seperate and the aftermarket wont reproduce it:
MotiveMag said:
Take the carbon-fiber hood, for instance. Sure, it has the retro-looking intakes at the leading edge and the rear-swept louvers on top, just like the 1968 namesake. But these don't just look mean; they also do the business of mean. The hood, in fact, contains two separate plenums — the front snorkels feed cool, high-pressure air directly to the sealed intake chamber, while the top vents take advantage of the low-pressure area near the base of the windshield to draw hot air out of the engine compartment. Together they work to keep underhood temperatures low and cooler ambient air flowing to the engine for a real performance gain. It's not a cheap piece to make (replacement value exceeds $2000), requiring more than 100 individual carbon fiber pieces to lay up the complex 11-pound structure.

I don't think Ford makes the KR hood or installs it before they are sent to Shelby.

I think Shelby contracts the hood to be made to their specs. and shelby installs the hoods.

Ford would have just as hard a time getting one as you or me.

Intruder, the real point (it seams) you want to make is that you want to state GT500s bought at Ford Dealerships are not really Shelbys.

Personally I wish Ford would have put the same performance package in a 4eye and left the shelby name off of it. It might just have cost me less. I could care less about the shelby name. Just like Shelby I like the performance a lot more then the badge on the side!

They are made in Vermont to Ford's specs, not SAI's. Trust me on that one.

You would have definitely paid less, but that wouldn't make Ford a very intelligent business now would it.
