Well, been busy so I haven't been as active as I used to be on here when I had the Torch Red 10th. Anyhow, after correcting parts over winter I installed 1-7/8 ARH Longtubes w/ ARH 3" O/R X and 3" Bassani catback (orginal plans was to Mac 3" but I returned that being the quality and even fitment was very poor in my opinion). So in the end, I ended up with a fully stainless 1-7/8 to 3" true exhaust all the way back. Overall the install went very smooth considering the car was on stands and I had to order to some specialty tools to get the job done. Did the install primary by myself on cold ass concrete floor. Took my time, since I am anal with how things look and I wanted a clean job; plus the weather was horrible so I was in no rush. Total time is unknown since I had to order parts, plus I never keep track of my projects since I do so much extra work while I have things apart. At this point after a couple drives I have no complaints on fitment or quality on the headers, mid-pipe or the catback. American Racing Headers and Bassani both make top of the line products and I highly recommend them. I know this thread is pointless without videos. They will be here soon enough once I get it tuned (hopefully the end of this week).
Quick Tips:
1. Drop the K member, and unbolt both motor mounts and the starter to make thing easier (pretty much a must with 1-7/8 primaries)
2. Use factory gaskets, order them up from Tousley.
3. Order MM solid steering shaft.
4. Order 10mm and 13mm stubby, half moon, and s-type wrenches. Summit carries them (pretty much a must with 1-7/8 primaries)
5. Going to need to remove two of the rear most bottom studs on the driver studs on the driver side as they hit primary/cannot start the nuts.
6. Buy some header wrap or heat shield to put around the starter. This is not necessary especially with ARH because they are routed nicely but good for assurance.
7. Plug in the longer o2 extensions that come with the ARH headers and let them hang before you install the longtubes. Not necessary but much easier.
K member out and motor supported. (Harbor Freight support bar)
Factory manifolds itching to be gone:
Factory manifolds are out:
A look at the new beasts taking their place:
Before EGR delete:
After EGR delete:
Ready to be installed (jack is there for insurance, not jacking oil pan)
A look at the driver side:
You can see the bolts used where the stud are extracted for clearance:
Passenger side is even tighter yet (specialty wrenches win here):
Motor still needs to be raised but they sit nice and wide in trans tunnel:
Passenger side in:
Driver side in:
Slight contact with rag joint (didn't want to alter K member position so MM shaft it is):
Stock steering shaft vs. MM solid steering shaft:
Front wheel well cleaned and treated:
Front wheels sealed and back on for the first time in 5 months:
Cleaned and treated the rear wheel well:
Prepped and ready (took baffles out of tips, polished and covered them)
Catback is in:
Will be polished to mirror shine in time; wanted to test fitment first:
Tucked up nice for a 3" system
Nice and even! Just to keep em that way. Best I can do with IRS brace:
Stanced out:
Couple engine shots for good measure:
Ending with an ass shot:
