Both the Escort 8500 X50 and the Valentine 1 are the best detectors available. The V1 gives you alot more information back, that allows you to find the radar source. Many people that don't want to spend the extra money for the arrows, will always spout how they aren't worth the extra money. With the extra money you get a ton more wiring options, a much more solid feeling detector, and a detector that retains it's value. Most people sell their old V1's on ebay for the low to mid $300's and purchase a new one for a tad more instead of upgrading. Both have great sensetivity. The V1 is much lighter and smaller than the X50. While the V1 is wider, it's also shorter and length and height. It's casing is magnesium alloy, while the X50 is plastic.
Stay away from any device that says it jams radar. Not one passive radar jammer works! They have been tested time and again and each time they fail. I had the pleasure of testing a top of the line Rocky Mountain Radar's Phaser unit a couple of years back with a buddy of mine that was an officer. Not once did it jam his radar from any distance. Get caught with active radar and it's $11,000 for each offense up to a total of $75,000 and a jailable offense.
