I used to travel internationally quite a bit for my job. Staying weeks or months in various countries, including the UK.

I wholeheartedly agree. Nothing like the United States of America. Nothing.

So the wife and I have been in the UK since the 21st of November. My son and his wife live here and they just had their 2nd child (another boy) so we flew over to help them out and meet the newest addition. While all the family stuff is great, and I am very grateful I'm able to see my grand kids, I have to admit I really don't like this country all that much and am ready to get the hell out of here! Without going into a bunch of specifics I'll just say that the US is still the greatest country on earth and you really feel this hit home when you are outside of her borders for an extended period of time. You don't realize how good we have things until you don't have them.

While out walking around in this little town the other day I stumbled across a bit of graffiti sprayed on a wall so I took a quick snap of it with my cell. It was behind a textile business at the end of a residential area. I thought it was quite poignant and wanted to share the message.

Thoughts?

20 years in the military took me to a lot of places temporarily.

Germany, Ireland, South Korea, Spain, England, Bosnia, Iraq, Kuwait, the list goes on.

People don't realize sometimes how fortunate they really are. Hell even I get complacent sometimes.

Stationed in Spain, March 76 - June 79, which you think is a pretty quiet country, but:
Guards with automatic weapons patrol the beaches.
A crew member was shot & killed for being near the piers after dark.
A guy in my division had his house raided @ 2 am by police, they broke in the door, ransacked the house, & left with out even telling him why.
More than 1 car had it's back window shot out @ the gate coming on the base.
Anyone that's never been out of the country has no idea !!

Until our 2nd amendment is completely gone, we will be OK. Guns are the only reason why we aren’t like other counties. People say the 1st amendment is the most important, it’s not. The 2nd amendment is the most important. It’s one that is worth fighting for and fighting hard for.

I agree with this 100%. I don't think people realize how close we are to losing what's left of the second amendment. We will see a complete gut of the 2A within our lifetimes IMO.

Could you elaborate a bit on what you found so offputting about a small English town?

My wife wants to visit England and I already said I don't want to go near London if possible. Is there anything worth seeing where you are at?
Easy answer first. There's nothing to see or do in the little town of Crewe where the wife and I currently are. We're only here because this is where my son and his wife reside. We originally scheduled our trip for 3 weeks with the intention of taking care of and assisting with the expected new baby. The tickets we purchased months ago are non-refundable and cannot be changed so we were locked in on our travel dates. The baby arrived about 20 days earlier than anticipated so by the time we arrived here there was nothing much for us to do but visit with my son and his family.

Trying to do anything here is considerably more challenging, frustrating, or unsatisfying when compared to the states. For example... Yesterday the plan was to take a train (we have 4 adults, a 3-year old, and a preemie to move around as a group, with all necessary support equipment) to a children's fun zone for a few hours so the 3-year old can play and get some exercise. You see the weather here sucks for the most part all year long, but is especially trash in November & December. Always damp, always cold, always grey. Not conducive to outside activities. British homes & flats are very small here so there's not a lot of room for a 3-year old to run around so there seems to be a lot of the "Play Centers" around the country for the kids. We decided to take the train North to Warrington, about a 15 minute ride, to the play zone there and then afterwards hit a Brazilian steakhouse for dinner before returning to Crewe. Train tickets cost £14 per person, one way. Kids were free. So that is a total of 8 tickets, 4 to get there, 4 to get back. We bought them in advance to save a few pence. So that's the equivalent of about $136 to get 4 adults 20 miles up the road. So we spend a couple hours at the play zone and then head to the restaurant. Keep in mind we are walking to all these locations because there is no other choice. No Uber, no Lyft, and very few taxi's which are prohibitively expensive. Plus none of them can hold 5 adults and 2 children, legally. The weather is below freezing at this time of the afternoon so walking is not very pleasant. We have a great dinner at the steakhouse and once done we head out towards the train station to catch our ride back. Unfortunately the rail workers are having a half-hearted strike so our train is delayed because there's no crew to drive it. Of course the train platform has no place to keep out of the weather so how long do we stand around in the freezing weather waiting for our delayed train? The answer was 1 hour before we said fug this. We then had to call 6 different taxi agencies until we found one who had access to a van and could drive us all back to Crewe. They actually had to call someone in special to do this. Cost for the 30 minute ride? About $125. As for our return tickets we couldn't didn't use? Too bad, so sorry says UK Rail. We were told quite rudely we should have remained on the platform until the train eventually came.

That is just one thing in a long list of BS we've had to put up with while we've been here. Nothing is simple, quick, or fast here.

While this countries buildings and infrastructure still look old and very "English" like you'd expect, the population is no longer made up of those polite & quaint old English folks you expect to see and meet. It's now primarily all immigrants who are quite cold and rude.

Go to London with your wife. Do the touristy thing and then get the hell out of there.

One other thing... this place is almost a totally cashless society now. Make DAMN SURE the credit card you plan on bringing with you doesn't stick it to you with each and every international transaction you make! My Visa/Debit card hits me up for 5% of everything I use it for on EVERY purchase!!!!!!! Don't even get me started with the raping you get on the conversion your CC uses when they convert the GBP to the US Dollar.

Okay the wife knows I'm mad by the cadence and sound of my bashing of keys as I type this all out. So before I go on another rant as to why this place sucks big hairy bawls I'll quit here.

I like to look at it like this... Our 2nd amendment is what allows us to freely practice our 1st amendment.

I lived in Germany for 10.5yrs and would go back in a heart beat. Yes, the U.S. is a great country but it’s the Florida of the world. People bitch and complain about my freedoms. I felt just as free and safer in that country.

Everyone wants free school/healthcare/etc but don’t want to contribute to get there such as higher taxes for those programs. The U.S. mentality is what’s best for my family and **** everyone else.

The U.S idea of patriotism is about the military and what comes with it. Patriotism could also be carrying for your fellow man and bettering the country.

Absolutely, the 2nd gives all the other amendments their teeth!

The two years I was in Sicily was pretty calm times for us. I did watch the Care Bears kick doors in and dent them when they got in the middle of our explosive mine convoys to the piers. Them with their Motor Guzzis and Uzis.
Bahrain which was 4 trips of 3 years was a shithole and one of the better places to be in the Middle East. When I was out with my Indian(red dot, not feather) agent showing me places to live some Muslim dude hit her with his car. Totally his fault. She started balling. I said what's wrong he hit you. She said it doesn't matter I'm a woman. I have to pay the cop, the damages and my husband will beat me later. Then a young girl died because she had that garb on and drowned in a pool. Instead of letting my friend's wife give her CPR they just left her die because touching her would be disrespectful. Yeah, that happened. The audacity of the rainbow people and their sign "Gays for Muslims" is absolutely some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen in my life. Yeah..it's great to be an American, in America. Those who hate it have never experience anything but it.

People don't realize how great they have it here till they actually visit other countries and experience the shit that goes on there... Unfortunately, half our country are do nothing opinionated green/purple haired clowns that complain about every unimportant thing under the sun, thinking they're activists making a difference, while the real issues all over the world get worse and spread.

As said, thank god we have our second amendment, otherwise all of you would be forced to think that way. Still not stopping our government from doing their best trying though. I don't have a positive outlook on the future and what that holds for everybody.

I’ll be honest - everything I’ve ever seen about the UK sucks, no wonder we revolted and killed a bunch of them hahahahaha

- weathers awful
- foods generally awful, blood sausage, beans on toast, mushrooms in a bowl for breakfast
- heard the same about rude people, which is a shock to me as i was raised a southern gentleman, holding doors open, helping older folks, etc etc
- tell someone you’re from America, LOL awful responses generally
- getting around is awful, as stated
- places to ‘see’ are spread the **** out

beans on toast
How dare you rip on beans and toast. I had that for breakfast this morning lol

Yeah, the UK sucks. My family left after WW2 and never looked back. I'm first generation and my family has nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, good to say about the UK and they all dread going back for family gatherings. My family still living there said immigrants and socialism have absolutely trashed anything left that was good.

I have a pretty popular competitive precision rifle podcast that is downloaded all over the world with a very big Aussie, UK, and Norwegian following. I have since made friends with a few dudes from all of those countries and they always tell me of how bad they want to move here and are currently looking in to doing just that. The world has plenty to offer as far as places to visit and things to see, but i have yet to go to nor here of any place to live than the US. There isn't a single thing that the world could trade me for my citizenship here. There is a reason the rest of the world wants to flood here rather than US citizens wanting to flood the rest of the world.
