I had one on the first time out but gun was not lubed properly and have never had another problem. I even use my "watered down" reloads and have no problem. Was yours a 9mm?
I have two, but had an FTF with JHP on both. Even with the round count up, continued to have periodic FTF. I use my Kimber Ultras for my concealed carry. I have six of them, and have never had an issue with any of them. I always cycle one of them through on my range days. My daily is a Master Carry Ultra with night sights, Crimson Trace grips, and two spare mags.

Looking to get my girlfriend into her first pistol and could use some help. She has shot before with her dad but she wants to start learning what I know and have me teach her. She likes the Shield and she likes my M&P9, but I want her to explore other options, and the Shield is not ideal for what she wants me to teach her, unless she wants to be incredibly proficient at speed reloads. I want her to start with something that has large capacity for 9mm and is full size-ish... I want her to conform to the pistol, not the other way around. Once she is proficient she'll be able to use anything she wants.

Here's what I am thinking for options and I am leaving out some brands because I have seen them fail repeatedly while running them through the paces. No Walthers, Taurus', Bersa, etc. They are fine for daily carry but not tactical training.

H&K VP9-fit good in her hands but I have never shot one. I figure the name can be trusted though. On the pricier side.

Sig P320-Scalable, great pistol to learn on, affordable, a little bulky.

Glock-she doesn't like Glock and I dont either but it is still going to be my next pistol. I'll conform to it. A 19 might be perfect for her.

M&P9 2.0-My M&P has been great, it performs with the best of them. The 2.0 has an optional slide safety model that may be a good feature for her.

XD-I know nothing about these.

I'm sure Im missing a few options.

Near full size, high capacity, 9mm, easy to learn on, reliable... Sounds like she should learn to like the Glock 19. I am not a glock fan even though I have a Gen 4 29, but they work and seem to fill your requirements. They won't break the bank either.

I have a P320 Carry. I don't have any complaints.

I like the 320 but I just have not put in much time with them. First thing I notice when I hold one is how tall it feels to me. That's about the only thing that gets to me, but I can get used to it. She probably won't know the difference though.

I can use a Glock all day long but I think it is the sight picture with how square the slide is that bothers me. It's just enough to make me not love it. However, a friend of mine just showed me his 19 with a Zev barrel, ambi mag release, and some really nice red Trijicon sights and I have to have it now. I think just the sights alone changed my mind. I'm going to have her shoot it and see if it will sell her like it did me.

Yeah I hated factory sights. I just put a set of truglo Tfo's and I love them. They are reasonably priced and they offer fiber optic and tritium inserts so they are bright in the day but glow at night. They also help with sight picture.

I'm going to check out sights for my M&P as well. It's the only thing I dont have and I don't know why I never changed them. Didn't think they made as big of a difference until I saw the ones on the G19. Every time I punched out my sight picture was immediately there.

Before I even finished reading I was going to tell you vp9.

I love h and k. They to me are as reliable as glock but a better gun. I have two of them and have put thousands of rounds through them and have never had one jam or one hiccup. Also they are as easy as glocks to strip and clean. The only advantage of glock would be price imo.

We were at Cabelas and she was looking all over but as soon as I saw the VP9 I had them pull it from the case so we could look closer. It had everything I wanted for her and she loved the ergonomics of it so it went to the top of my list, but I wanted to see what everyone else's thoughts were on it. I know Bob has one as well and I haven't heard him say anything bad either. It was more expensive at like $640, but that still isn't too bad for a premium brand that prides itself on their quality.

She will love it. I’ve seen them as low as $599.

With some of the ones you have mentioned I would def look at the CZ p10c. Very good gun. Great striker fire trigger right out of the box.

I have been wanting to try out some CZs as well. I know they are good but I would need to see how they hold up. I'll put that on my list of guns to try and rent at a range.

I don't think you will be disappointed. They will hold up very well. I have a CZ as my competition gun. I have over 6,000 rounds through it since February and have never had one failure at all. BTW, Guns&Ammo just voted the p10c their gun of the year.

If you are referring to me, I LOVE my VP9SK. I (sadly) have fired a round with my Shield 9mm since buy the SK. I am more accurate with it, probably in part because the trigger pull is so smooth, and because it just feels so perfect/comfortable in my hand. Just can't say enough about it. The only negative, if you can call it a negative, is that it's a bit larger than my Shield, so carrying/concealing it takes a bit more creativity. It's that slightly larger size that makes it so much fun to shoot.

The rifle is a Winchester .32 lever action, along with both my revolvers. Picture is before I took the scope mount off.

An all matching numbers Russian 1943 Mosin Nagant. Missed the opportunity to buy a Finnish model long barrel matching numbers Nagant, so picked up the Russian model.

first order of business is how it fits her hand and how comfortable she is with it. I have found with many women, they actually like revolvers better. I am not advocating necessarily for a revolver, just telling you my experience. fit and comfort go a long way to accuracy and confidence.

I just looked it up and saw a couple review videos. Looks and sounds like a really good pistol! That trigger sounds nice and the size looks good but I will have to see how it fits for her. I would really like to start her out on a double action just as I did with an M9. It will teach her trigger control and she will be able to transition back and forth with little effort.

Of course Bob! Haha. Seeing VP9 in your posts was the only reason I recognized the pistol in the display. I thought the grip felt really good and the size altogether is great. Imo, the Shield is just a pistol to get you by for daily carrying, but the full size pistols is where you want to spend most of your time training.
