LOUD ticking on start-up. Dang. Let's see what it is!

I currently have the same issue with the loud tick on start up. Thanks for sharing and pointing me in the right direction. I'll dig into it this winter.

Yeah, it seems the gasket material is molded with the plastic tensioner. Mine didn't tick on every startup, but maybe 60%-70% of them. I looked at all the guides and internals, and there is no damage or wear to anything inside of the timing cover.

Have you picked up new tensioners yet, and if so, mind sharing where?

I will be ordering a set from Autonation this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Waiting on gasket prices. Autonation has the metal ones in stock.

The metal ones don't use a gasket.

Edit:Oh you probably meant timing cover gaskets.

Yup. Just got off the phone with Chris at Autonation and all the parts were in stock and ordered. Hopefully, they'll be at my doorstep by Friday. In the meantime, I've been doing a lot of cleaning up on the existing parts and pulling a few tricks from out of the stockpile here at the house.

Current status of parts, buddy! Still gotta finish up getting the Eaton back together, PLUS gotta straighten on the heat exchanger brackets and paint them too. Hopefully all the parts will be done this weekend.

Thanks! Found the covers on Ebay as well as the CPCovers. I think the look of those will go well with the new look of the Eaton:

I thought you picked up a 2.9L Whipple last winter.

Nah. Wanted to go VMP TVS, but lack of funds and knowing this repair would probably come this year PLUS losing out on my overtime since February has limited my purchasing power this year.

Those Wrinkle Blue Valve Covers and COP Covers look fantastic. Glad you found the problem and it was minor. Good luck getting her back on the road Doug.

Thanks buddy! Glad is was minor, too!

I guess I'll get to see this piece of junk in person sometime or another soon. Fall cruise needs to happen.

CVMC puts on a fall leaf cruise each year. We go out Rt 6 to Rt 29 and over through Crabtree Falls. You should go.

I am hoping to have the car finished up by sometime Saturday!
