Returned the wrong item?

Heres the story....

I have flat screen TV that is mounted on the wall. The mount was a simple stationary mount. I wanted something the allowed me to move the TV (pan and tilt), so I purchased a full articulating mount from Walmart online. After about a week, I decided that I really didn't need it and decided that I was going to return it.

While at work one day, I called my roommate and asked him if he would pack the articulating mount back in the box so I could quickly return it when I got off work.

I run home, grab the box, and head to Walmart. I return the item and receive my refund. It wasn't until I returned home later that night that I discovered that my roommate packed up the old mount and not the articulating one.

Does anyone know what happens at these retailers when the wrong item is returned and later discovered?

just wait and see if they even notice......
you could always say you returned it because they sent you the wrong one in the first place lol

I'm surprised they didn't open the box before hand to check the item, but since they accepted it I doubt Walmart will do anything now.

If you bought it with a credit card you're screwed.

Their loss prevention specialists will be forwarding your info and a video of you to the local PD.

Eventually you'll receive an invitation to an x-box 360 giveaway...you show up...and bam warrant served...under arrest.

They're probably looking in the box and comparing it to the picture saying WTF is this:

Walmart.com: Planet 3 Double-Arm Articulating Wall Mount for 37" to 63" Flat-Panel TVs, 66306: TV & Video

Yeah they started taking this shit seriously when it costs retailers billions per year and they pass it on to the customer with higher prices. Best thing you could do is go fess up.

Seriously though, people have gone to jail for lesser thefts.

Lol. They won't do anything. They were supposed to check the item upon return anyway. Their fault for not checking. Enjoy your new wall mount .

It will probably go back on the shelf with all the returned milk and cheese that some crackheads brought back in need of some crack money.

they cannot do anything to you after you walk out. no matter how you paid. if there is some mystery charge just dispute it with your credit card company and they will remove it because it is an un authorized charge and walmart will not have your signature for it.

anyway, be honest, go back and fix the issue.

LOL is there even such a thing?

"return fraud" specifically, no. a form of theft, yes

Just go in there and explain what happened. If I read your post correctly you didn't need it anyway.

It bothered you enough to post it on here. Maybe they look at you like you're nutz. Who knows.

If I go to wal-mart and buy an articulating mount and get a stationary one I'm coming after your ass. :lol1:

Retailers usually require you to sign a receipt stating the item you are returning. If you signed one and they later discover you returned some other item they'll likely contact you. If you signed nothing just wait and see. It was an honest mistake.

They wont do anything. When I worked retail at the home depot some guy returned two 5 gallon buckets of primer but they really had water in them LOL. The cashier got an ear full, but that was the end of it, wrote it off.

I'd fix the issue just for personal satisfaction of doing the right thing.

On a side note I love the fully articulated mount in my living room. I can turn the tv to watch from the kitchen and on occasion from the bathroom ;).
