Vic do you drive your car on the street. if so how does your coyote do just daily driving normal operation with 3 gears?

Yea, drove my crown vic 70+ miles to the track, trans temps never got above 160*, RPMS are 2600 @ 65 mph, made 3 passes, and averaged 13-14 MPG the whole way there, back, including the 3 passes and the 4-5 WOT pulls to like 130 on the highway on the way back.

I don't daily drive it, I have another car for that. I do feel confident enough in it to drive it 70+ miles to the track and around town whenever it isn't raining.

Clicked this off while I was there too.

It's a precision 76GTSH turbo, E85, non-intercooler, meth injected, LS6 intake and cam, Megasquirt, TH400, PTC converter, 31 spline moser axles, etc. etc. And that's a footbrake.

This is the 10.76 pass

This was the next pass. I put another degree in it and I'm almost certain I heard detonation so I let out around 500' and coasted.

Burned a piston when I got greedy and put it on 23psi.

Bought another race motor (junkyard 5.3) for $225.

Sold the coils and manifolds for $160, assembled new $65 race motor after gapping the rings a little.

Now I just gotta put a few more things on it and I'll be ready to go!

Just a junkyard pullout 5.3 with a turbo.

D.T.R. my dealer never told me what was wrong with the first one. At the time it happened, it was so early on that Ford told them not to bother tearing it apart, just to ship it to Dearborn so their engineers could go through it. The second one they've replaced the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, input shaft, 1-2 shift fork, and 2nd gear synchros. It still doesn't shift to 2nd under WOT. So they decided to replace the transmission.

I believe it's a GT pressure plate problem. For some it's the added power, and for others, like me, it's the added rpm's from the Boss intake. I shift at 7700 so I can take advantage of extra power in the upper rpm's, and I just don't believe the stock pressure plate can release at those rpm's. I'm curious what the differences are between the Boss clutch and pressure plate and our GT set-up.

that's interesting man. I never reved mine past 7k rpms. I'd shift right at 7k every time. Kinda of wish i installed that RXT clutch to see if it made matters any better ... oh well... starting a new chapter now with the auto.

Appreciate it man. I'd consider putting a coyote in my car some day, but the price of a pullout 5.0 is just not realistic for me at this point. Not to mention all the spare room I have in my car now with this pushrod! AHAH. I know anyone that's worked on a mod motor, especially a 4V knows what I'm talking about! LOL!

Good plan. 3 pedals are fun for the street, but I enjoy not breaking things in between the motor and tires.

I only see the 6speed manual more fun or better if you're doing high rolls.
Every time i ran mine from a dig... especially against auto cars... it was a reeling in game... pretty annoying. even with limited tire spin... the auto's power band is way better down low... so I'd always had to hope I had more power and I could reel them in...

Yea and even then if you miss a gear it's all over. I'll take my sissy stick any day over a manual. Only standard I'd ever put in my car would be a faceplated T56. I love how a faceplated trans sounds.

Well again we're stumped. So I'm just gonna bring over my grinder with a 10 pack I harbor freight cutoff wheels and we'll find out what broke

kinda the point of why it requires more skill to drive a stick...

Hey vic eventually i intend to switch from a manual tranny to an automatic. I drive the street mostly, seldom race at the track. Which tranny do you recommend i get that will be good on the street, and is reasonably priced and will get me good gas mileage on the highway...my current mods are in my sig. Thanks!

I don't know if he's a member here, but I met him at the bradenton NMRA. It's a silver 5.0 with a big centrifugal blower. It has longtubes and is on E85, there's a video of him going mid 9s on a stock longblock at PIR, I can't remember his name. Anyway, he has an ATF built 4r70w that seems to be putting up with his beatings very well.

Long story longer, I'd say a properly built 4r70 with a good converter (I know tons of people that have triple disk circle d converters and lock them up on the big end and have never had problems) would be a good one to have. They make trans controllers for them and it seems to be working great for the guy I was just talking about.

I love my TH400, but I personally wouldn't DD my car, or any car with a non locking, non OD converter. I would love to put a 4L80e in my car one day. It's identical ratios to a TH400, except it has OD and a locking converter. Only problem with those trans is they weigh like 80-100lbs more than my 400. But from what I've seen people do with them, they're damn incredible hulks of transmissions.
