Damn you guys are spoiled.LOL
Nothing that has come in a GT has been capable of holding even stock coyote power since the 60's, let alone boosted!

Well the 03-04 cobra's trans seem to hold up okay right? I would think it is about progression and not regression. Or at least maintaining the potential of the transmissions they put in mustangs.

And I know someone who broke their MT82 ROLL RACING and it was an intake, CAI, tune 5.0. A tremec 3650 takes more than an MT82

Cobra is not a GT. GT were cheaper cars even then. They get cheaper trannies.
As I said, a 3650 (came in GTs right?) will take more than an MT82.
Wonder who that was????? :nonono: BTW, MT-82 #3 goes in Thursday.
And here he is folks! Lemme ask you something brian, what would you rather have in your car if you had a choice, MT82 or 3650?

Transmission or user error at that power level? Sorry, you mentioned roll racing so I have to ask. Can't launch, maybe can't shift either? :D

Oh man! You got me! AHAH... It was january, the tracks were closed, Brian just got his car, and wanted to run a CTSV caddy. Brian went 7.6s at 90+ with just an intake, CAI, and tune. I'm fairly certain he knows how to drive a stick shift. Trolabunga dude!

I think ford thought that if we kept the car stock the mt-82 would hold up! Thats a fair assessment! I don't think ford thought that alot of us would be building and exceeding gt-500 power levels with our gt's. otherwise we would have got tremecs in these. Ford didn't think we would risk our warranties to do so! Like most big corporations they are detached from the people that buy their products! And in all fairness the mt-82 was never engineered for 700+ hp!
Exactly.
Agreed, if they had thought about it, they would have put better pistons and rods in the motor as well.
+1

you are wrong if you think the 3650 holds better than the MT82.
I know several people locally with them, and they don't hold a whole lot past 400whp...

Whaaaa? You is cray cray lol. Show me a 3650 going 9's in a 3800+ pound car.
Roll racing eh? Some people can break anything lol. Buddy used to pop 8in like they were candy. He'd spin the tires and back off, or shift, tires would grab and BOOM. I'd get the wheels off the ground with mine and never broke it.

A 3650 easily. I've never had the problems with a manual transmission that I've had with the MT82. It locked up on a 1-2 shift on the first one @7500 miles. Worked flawlessly up until that point. Second one just won't shift to second @wot. Dealer wants to replace it, so I said be my guest.

This guy......

I didn't have the Boss intake yet. I just had a CAI, ORX, tune, and tires. That was w/3.31's as well. 1.67 60' FTW!

What surprises me most about going to the Turbo 400 is, if dude bought a stick car that new, didn't he buy it with the intent to row some gears? At those power levels a MagXL or TR-6060 would handle the power all day! Of course, it'd cost more, but damn... I guess I just find a 3-speed auto in a modern street car to be sort of an odd pairing.

Thats what mine did.
did they ever tell you what the issue is? first to 2nd gear at WOT has been my issue. Seemed like a synchro issue... it would drive flawlessly at lower RPMs..

I think it could partially be the shifting mechanisms inside. I would have tried for a fix but the last one worked pretty good. Speed shifting could problems could be synchros. But after seeing the shifter rails I think a little kung fu could go a long way there. Need a local guy w the same problem to figure out if that helps.

I don't have to when I can show you a car with an MT82 that went low 11s and blew the trans.

Hey look! 1st hand experience and not some hear-say bull shit! I think I'll listen to this guy!

I take it in your entire life you've never changed your mind about a decision you've made.

So you blew up an MT82, but you take up for them? :scratches head:

i didn't "blow it up", matter of fact i drove the car to work just now lol
it drives perfectly when cruising. At WOT however, it won't let me go into 2nd gear sometimes so i decided to build me an auto 2014... waiting on it currently.

The reason i believe it developed this issue is from almost 600ftlbs of tq, launching it at almost 6k RPMs, on bigs and littles... i doubt your glorified 3650 would hold that for long.

I don't have a glorified 3650. I never even dreamt of trying to make a stick shift last. Hence the ancient technology, HP robbing, boat anchor weight, no OD having, etc etc TH400 in my car. It's got a perfect record! Never missed a gear!

The car is mine, and its my trans he's referring to. I'm in the middle of swapping it to the th400. But he has a th400 in his crown Vic and drives it 70 miles to Bowling Green, KY one way and it does just fine.
