LOL, I was thinking that exact same thing.

Saturday evening the family and I were eating on a patio and in the same parking lot is a Tesla charging station. There was a flatbed tow truck unloading a Tesla at the charging station and I just laughed my ass off.

If possible, people with pacemakers should stick to charging their EVs at low-voltage Level 1 stations. However, that isn’t always possible when taking a long road trip or need a quick charge on short notice. In these situations, handle the cable as carefully as possible while plugging in the EV.
Once the charging has begun, users with pacemakers probably shouldn’t sit inside their electric cars. They should remain several feet away until the process is complete. If there’s a passenger without a pacemaker, it’s even safer to let that person handle the charging.

I just read that Fox News report on insurers maybe having to junk cars due to the inability to repair battery packs even if scratched.

"A scratched or slightly damaged electric battery might be enough for some insurers to write off entire cars, as for many electric vehicles there is no way to repair battery packs after collisions."

ICE and BEV are so close in energy cost that small fluctuations in either energy source change the economic impact advantage. However the charging time will always be much longer for a BEV and batteries will always be more toxic.

"In Q4 2022, typical mid-priced ICE car drivers paid about $11.29 to fuel their vehicles for 100 miles of driving. That cost was around $0.31 cheaper than the amount paid by mid-priced EV drivers charging mostly at home, and over $3 less than the cost borne by comparable EV drivers charging commercially.

Drivers of luxury EVs continued to a fueling cost advantage, regardless of charging method."

A. The repair costs are nuts as are the wait times.

B. Who the hell wants a repaired fire hazard sitting in their garage and who wants the liability?

Ford (NYSE:F) is raising the price of its flagship EV pickup again, according to the company.
After a lengthy pause in production due to battery fire concerns, production of the F-150 Lightning has resumed, according to Automotive News. However, the price of the vehicle is once again going up to deal with increased costs, adding to several price increases announced in 2022.
The Michigan-based auto manufacturer had initially slated the Pro version to sell for around $40,000 before steadily hiking the price amid rising material costs. In October, the price of the 2023 model was raised for the second time, bringing the cost over $50,000. As of the latest increase, the model will sell for $59,974.

Basically, we want ICE gone and we're gonna make sure Green credits don't let them hang around. It would blow the pickup OEM's current planning out of the water. Green Insanity.

From Reuters:

DOE wants to significantly revise how it calculates the petroleum-equivalent fuel economy rating for electric and plug-in electric hybrids for use in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) program.
The current system has not been updated in more than two decades.
“Encouraging adoption of EVs can reduce petroleum consumption but giving too much credit for that adoption can lead to increased net petroleum use because it enables lower fuel economy among conventional vehicles, which represent by far the majority of vehicles sold,” DOE said in its proposed regulation.
Miles Per Gallon equivalent (MPGe) ratings are determined by using values for national electricity, petroleum generation and distribution efficiency and driving patterns. [...]
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents major automakers, warned last year that lowering the values could have far-reaching implications and would discourage EV adoption.
A Volkswagen ID.4 EV with a current 380.6 MPGe under CAFE would get 107.4 MPGe under the DOE proposal, while a Ford F-150 EV drops from 237.1 to 67.1 MPGe and Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid falls from 88.2 to 59.5 MPGe.

Given the source, that number was buffed up and still only 19%.

The only question is when do EV's start stacking up on lots so badly and consumer screams of anguish become political, and shit becomes real for the politicians. Of course, at that point, it might be a moot point with all ICE gone.

According to CNBC “Only 19% of respondents to the poll, by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago and the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, said it’s 'very' or 'extremely' likely they would buy an EV as their next car.” Most car companies assume that the figure is astronomically higher, or they would not make their current level of investment.
