looks to be IRS by the simple amount of rear camber in the back wheels from the rear shot not to mention the tail pipe routing the the looks of a stamped aluminum lower control arm as-well.
All I have to say is its a step in the right direction to get the mustang back up to date and shut all the critics up about the dated solid axle. I would Hope Ford would have put a ton of development time and testing to make sure the rear end would hold up to 700+ hp gt500 to last.

I actually really like my IRS in the cobra. Even if it's not great; mine has 82k miles on it, prolly bad bushings, and has the famous dif leak. Still enjoyable to me around curves and higher speeds. I'm not pushing what a lot of you guys are, and yes I do get hop when I start spinning tires BUT I like it for now. I think the IRS in the upcoming cars may not be Mclaren or Lamborghini quality, but it should be much much better than my current setup. So I can give them a bene of the doubt that this could be very good for the mustang.

My concern is weight???

I for one am actually for an IRS in the Mustang's. I just hope it's not the massive 300lb+ type system like in the Camaro. Kinda hard to drop weight in the Mustang if your gonna add something like this.

Here is the Camaro's IRS. It's quite the hunk of metal!

Kinda off topic, but while Ford is at it making drastic changes like this, i hope this will be the end of ANTENNA'S for pete's sake as well. If they bring out the 2015 Mustang with a damn antenna again, I'll puke!... For crying out loud it's 2012! Is it that difficult to have an antenna in the window?...
Every time i look at one of these awesome Shelby's that I'm in love with, and i see that retarded antenna sticking out above the rear quarter panel, it's an instant face palm.

Another thing i hope we stop seeing is the rear brakes on the GT's and Shelby's using those pathetic calipers...:nonono: Hopefully going with an IRS will change that...

Lastly, i hope the next gen Mustang will be able to offer up some drastic changes in wheel options... The options out there now, stock and aftermarket, are pretty lame IMO... How about a Mustang that you can put some rims on and actually have more than 2 inches of lip...:nono:

Anyways, sorry for the rant...Just needed to get that off my chest while talking about the next Gen Mustang...:coolman: Carry on...

its going to be heavier at least in the rear end with the addition of the sub frame but still they were always too light in the rear anyway. So i would hope they lightened the front.

TheMustangNews.com - Australian Falcon IRS

Article on the Ford Falcon IRS system. Most likely going to be similar to what is used in the 2015 models. Whether anyone likes it or not, drag racing isn't the most popular thing in Europe and Asia. In fact, racing isn't even the most popular. If the mustang is to survive it must compete in a ever expanding and competitive global market. To do so, it must be able to go at it with the best in all areas. Not just in performance but in ride quality as well. Something the live axle constantly gets killed on. Drag racers will just have to get over it or mod it to a solid axle if it bugs you that much. However, if ford keeps with the CJ, maybe they will have a kit for this you all can buy from ford racing?

I really hope that this car doesn't go the way of the Mustang II. Even the early fox body Turbo GT's weren't received well at all. If the GT trim level Mustang comes with anything but a V8, I don't think people will go for it.

To be fair, you show the IRS with everything mounted, and the SRA alone.

Can't wait to see the final design of the '15 GT. I put an IRS in my '03 GT and loved it. It was weird to drive a solid axle '98 after having such a smooth ride in the IRS. 2011 was better, but still bouncy around corners.

Hoping I have enough saved up for a '15 vert once they come out.

While the IRS does weigh more, the sprung weight is significantly less. The weight in the rear helps to balance the car. If you're a drag racer you may not be thrilled about it but the rest of us sure are! The funny thing about drag racing is all the time/money that is spent to drive as little as possible. HPDE and the like get more driving in one day than a drag racer does in a lifetime. IRS FTW!

I wonder if it will actually look like this? It is a modern more compact design but still holds the Mustang lines.

BULL SHIT!! You are doing it wrong or using the wrong equipment for the job! Freaking get over yourself you drag racers are a very small niche segment that even when you do get a solid axle you rip it out and put a narrowed 9" Ford in with a 4 link, something you obviously should have done in the cars you mentioned.

Ford GT:bored::rollseyes

I did not say Ford, I said:
"News Flash!
It's 2012, an IRS can be engineered to be very strong and work better than a live axle."

Examples:
Bugatti Veyron
Ferrari (pick one!)
Lamborghini (pick one!)
Maserati (pick one!)
Mercedes (pick one!)->AMG Black
Porsche (pick one!)
BMW M series (pick one!)
Aston Martin (pick one!)
Jaguar (pick one!)
Audi R8
Bentley (pick one!)
Cadillac CTS-V
Corvette
Camaro
Viper
Ford GT <---- I don't hear drag racers bitching about launching this car in the standing mile!
Koenigsegg (pick one!)
Lexus LF-A
Mclaren (pick one!)
Mitsubishi EVO
Nissan GTR
Pontiac GTO
Rolls Royce (pick one!)
Supra

Good examples!

I've been looking at the 2011+ Mustangs, and have decided to get one. The one thing killing me about it though, is that stupid solid axle. Ever since I had my 04' Cobra, and my 03' Mach with an IRS swapped in, I can't STAND driving these cars with the solid rear. 99.9% of my driving is on California roads, and even with coil overs, panhard bar, etc... It sucks. Hard. If they will bolt in to the 2011 cars, I'll be one of the first in line to trade for a 2015 IRS.
