I really wanted a TVS but felt that the then available kit from FRPP was a bit overpriced given the moderate power increase it offered. The fact that FRPP stepped up and decided to make the 2.9 Whipple available along with a factory-like tune was a no brainer for me and definitely sealed the deal.

If I were in your shoes right now, I honestly think I'd wait a bit. I have a feeling that FRPP may be itching to offer the '13 factory TVS for the '11/'12 with a tune. Repeated calls to the FRPP hotline couldn't hurt...:)

We shall see, but the whipple will make more power me likey more power

Did you ever throw it on a Dyno to see what she puts out?

My recently calibrated assclenchometer says 667 rwhp +/- 3.14%.

Seriously - I'm due. The car is the same monster it was when I finished this upgrade. No check engine light, no hiccups, nothing other than rocket-like acceleration any time I want it.

This rear drivers bolt is ridiculous, cant reach it with your fingers, they put a vacuum line in front of if that hardly moves, I've got more time trying to get this bolt tight then it took me to take other s/c off. ugh. I give up for today, start again tomorrow.:fm:

I can chuckle, because I've been there. That bolt is a real PIA.

Step back, reevaluate, and formulate a plan. I wish you luck brother!

Yeah, I am or have to because my back is killing me from leaning over for hours. Maybe a trip to the hardware store in the morning I can find some type of thin ratchet wrench, or something, these MM turns are getting old. Wish I would have just screwed that bolt in a few more turns in the beginning.

Have someone with smaller hands help you out with it. My big ham-hands wouldn't fit in there, but a friend had smaller hands.

Also check out my install thread on [blank]. Tons of pictures that will hopefully help you out.

Tim, if there is a relevant portion of the thread, click to edit the writeup you did, copy that section, and present it here.

If you're a good mechanic and well versed on the install - part of a day. That would mean having every possible thing you'd need (tools, permatex, etc).

What you'd be waiting for is the ProCal tuner, which comes in a couple of days once you forward the relevant PCM information to FRPP.

Beware - this isn't necessarily a mod you'd want to shop price on for the installation portion. A quality install takes time and experience. If you can spin a wrench and have read up on all possible nuances via the installation instructions, writeups such as this, etc, it isn't beyond doing it at home.

I am far from a mechanic and never really did any serious engine work prior to my FR 750 kit install. I was slow and methodical. I made some mistakes along the way that slowed me down some more, but in the end, it took me 2 long days and the end result was good.

My Procal tuner arrived the very next day after I submitted the info.

If I had my guide that I made on fordgt500.com for the install, it would have been much faster with a lot less problems.

I decided to tackle mine after getting a $1,200 install quote and seeing various online helpers like TOB's.

I didn't know much about these engines before I started, but I sure learned a lot in the process!

Good luck!

Just wanted to say thanks to Goose. Finished my install up on Sunday and it's a beast. His directions could easily replace and supersede the FRPP/Whipple directions. As far as the pain in the ass points he listed, they are right on. I had a buddy do the fuel pump and I know he was really frustrated. For me, the EGR is the nightmare. That took me several hours. The back bolt on the blower wasn't too bad, but then again, I had a different buddy with small hands do that one..heh. But, thanks Goose!

Has anyone with the kit ever checked to see what kind of numbers it puts out with Fords tune?

How does the torque look and numbers compared to a typical TVS setup? I am going nuts with dyno tunes and smog tests, which is pushing me to go to the FRPP kit and forget about it. :bash:

A couple things. It really puts a smile on my face to see that this thread has helped some here make the decision to go with the FRPP/Whipple kit. May you be as happy with yours as I am with mine.

And something else. While perusing Whipple's site, I came across a page that links a pdf file of a detailed blueprint for each one of Whipple's offerings (scroll down half way). The 2.9, or W175AX is thankfully among the list. I get the opportunity to work with various drawings at work each day so it piqued my interest when I saw that Whipple was proud enough of their superchargers to link print files online.

What is really neat, is that we have a machine at work that can generate a full size print a a matter of seconds from a simple file, such as a pdf. So I fired off an email to Whipple asking permission to print the file so that I can frame it up and mount it in my shop (with great pride I might add). I picked a random size of approximately 36" x 48"....

Sorry if it doesn't do much for anyone here, but for me it is simply too cool!

Another thing. I wanted to laminate the stickers that come with the kit for both the EO# and for the octane sticker that mounts near the gas cap. I wasn't that thrilled with the non-centered sticker that FRPP supplied....

So, I took the much cooler Whipple EO# sticker and tweaked it just a hair...

I then printed the file with the appropriate size and laminated it as well so that it'll last. I also played with the octane sticker as well...

As to the car, oh man...I definitely hold the car in a different regard than I did before. Sometimes after a long day at work, I'll come home and go straight to my "shop" out back and just stare at what lies under the hood.

I don't think it'll ever get old.

Interesting how the blueprint titles the piece W170ax but it's marketed W175ax.
