I love talking to the Terminator/anti-coyote douche bags.

They assume because I own a 13' GT that I don't know shit about wrenching on cars and making HP.

Any ****tard can buy a Terminator and be competitive bc 9/10 times they are already modded. Not to mention its so cool to say "my car is 10yrs old and can run away from your GT".

Bitch in 10 yrs my car will not be simply an 11 sec tune+tires car.

Go on a long trip in a Terminator then do the same trip in a 13' Premium GT.

The guys arguing in this thread are why many people from other makes look at us all as general douche bags.

Good job.

Not sure who this is aimed at, but if it is me, I haven't said anything about anyone not being able to wrench a car.

I personally like taking long trips in any New Edge Mustang. My 99 GT is a blast to drive, as is my Cobra, and if I wanted comfort and performance, I would have kept my BMW 335xi coupe.

What I find interesting is that 5.0 owners always do exactly what you are doing now and what has happened in this thread.

It starts off with, "Yeah, well, your 10 year old car is a pig compared to my new GT!"

*After a run and some ego damage*

"Yeah, well, TEN YEARS FROM NOW, my car is going to be the shit!"

"My GT is more comfortable for road trips!" Then my guess is a Fleetwood is the ultimate driving machine for you?

"I've got lit cup holders." Okay...I'll give'em that much. :-D

"Just because I drive a 5.0, doesn't mean I can't wrench on a car and make HP!" Well, good for you. Most of us though who also know how to wrench on a car are more concerned with a little thing called torque. High HP numbers are for dyno queens. Torque moves your butt dyno.:-D

"Your car was probably modded by someone else." And saving money by having someone else buy your performance parts is a problem? I guess anyone with a Lingenfelter Corvette, Saleen Mustang, Shelby Mustang, Shelby GT, etc. are all non-gearheads and don't know shit about cars because, technically, someone else worked on their vehicles. Give me a break. :bash:

To be honest, I wish there was a lot less infighting in the Mustang crowd, Back in the early 2000's it was like being in a brotherhood. Yeah, you had your occasional big brother-little brother, V6-V8 squabbles, and you will always have that with any car that offers two seperate power trains targeting two seperate groups of people.

But now, it's just the bench racers and yuppie crowd vs the people who actually know what they are doing.

I don't see the gap between the 5.0 crowd and the rest of the Mustang community closing any time soon. Maybe once they get older and saturate the used car market and real enthusiasts start to buy them, the image will change. But for now it's just a bunch of guys driving around bone stock thinking they can take out anyone on the planet.

There's always something faster. Doesn't matter WHAT you drive.

They wouldn't post the fastest times because from a "marketing" stand point, or how you put it. They would have a hard time selling a GT500 when a 5.0 runs similar or a few tenths off. The GT500 has serious traction issues and people like us understand that. From the perspective of most potential gt500 buyers (old white men who love getting the best deal) they wouldn't get it. Same thing happened with the buick and chevrolet. When the GNX was owning the shit out of the vette during 1/4 mile tests, chevrolet had to hide the video and downgrade the buick GNX. They would rather sell vettes over a buick.

Now see, this is a legitimate explanation. I dont agree but it is well thought out and well explained.

The problem with your theory is that C&D and Motor Trend do publish the times and you are correct, they are not too far apart.

And where I think you really miss the boat is that they want he Mustang to have times close to the GT500 as possible. The reason?

As I explained earlier in this thread, the Mustang is their money maker, the GT500 is not. Sure they turn a profit on the GT500 but it is not going to make or break them.

They only produce 4000 GT500's a year and do not have an issue finding that many buyers. As for the Mustang, they produced hundreds of thousands of them.

So, from a marketing standpoint they surely want the Mustang to look as close to their top end performance car as possible with a sticker sitting $20k + under the GT500.

Again, well thought out, but you forgot to think of the sales side from a numbers perspective and in marketing numbers are everything.

From this thread, I gather that most 5.0 owners have a reverse elitism mentality. Usually people that suffer from this affliction are trying to over compensate for not being able to own the top of the line item, whatever the reason may be.

I see your POV and I agree with some parts. My question is how does FORD justify the extra 20k out of your pocket? From an ignorant car buyers perspective if they see similar times for both vehicles they are going to have a hard time writing out a check for more money. I’m almost certain most ignorant car buyers (the buyers dealers love) will believe FORDs number over magazine numbers. Ford has and always will sell 5.0's/GT’s. Those sales will never dwindle, as the audience and potential buyers are endless; due mostly to the fact the GT has been around for decades and has set its own reputation. The GT500 on the other hand that is upwards to +60k and out of reach of most buyers, advertises (at the time) 550hp but yields the same time bracket as the 5.0, can hurt a potential +20k sale. Remember the dealer’s mission is to up sell, whether it be with warranties, insurance, or potentially a better car. I can’t count how many times I walked into a dealer during shopping and they pull me towards the GT500 or Roush after they run my credit. IMO Fords outlook is: advertise an average time (high elevation and low elevation) of mid 13's (exactly similar to my 08 Bullitt) so the GT500 stays in the limelight and can still be the “fastest car on the lot”.

I'm sure that "fastest car on the lot" has been used as a sales pitch multiple times. The current GT500 is a different story. It's an 11 second car so it doesn't have much to worry about. We all know from 2007-2009 the GT500's didn't have that great of a reputation. When i saw one, it was almost disappointing. I think ford finally repaired the reputation of the GT500 which began in 2011. I want to include 2010, but the aluminum block for 2011, IMO was the angle that was needed to get the car out of the heavy weight division.

No offense to the 07-09 owners out there. Still a pretty car with gobs of power.

AS a Gt500 owner, I aleways wave to Mustangs, whether it is a v6 fox body or a 14 5.0, what I find surprising is how FEW of them wave back. I am a gearhead at heart, I will appreciate any fast, good looking car. If it is faster than me,or I get outdriven, OK, it happens, and I give props. But on the street, where I do not race (I keep it at the track) I don't understand why people don't return the wave. And I hate to pile on, but seriously the worst ones do seem to be the 20 somethings in GT's. Hey, when I was 20 something if I could have afforded a nice 30k+ car I would be proud too, but as mentioned above, there IS ALWAYS someone faster. So share in the brotherhood of musclecar owners.

My post wasn't directed at anyone inparticular.

I just get frustrated being lumped into a group of dbags. Its very true that many 5.0 owners dont know shit. They make us look kinda bad.

Noobs that never had a fast car get cocky in these new 5.0s. But lets face it its better than a cocky 370z owner haha.

I almost bought an 04 cobra btw, but preferred an extended warranty.

Congrats on the new car! Having a warranty is a very good thing. That's about the only thing I worry about with my car. BUT...I'm hoping that with it being a 1-owner and having just under 16k miles when I bought it that things will hold up well. She was mostly stock, just pullied, tuned, and the Bassani full exhaust. No headers or anything. Heck, I think this is the first one I've seen in a long time that was still running the factory air intake. :dw:

I guess I am coming from the viewpoint that yes, they want to sell GT500's but they already know the market is small for those buyers. Most dealerships dont even have one on the lot and if they do they just have one. But they have 15 5.0's on the lot they have to get rid of. And they are much easier to sell when you have someone who has a $30k budget and you can show them that the car is similar in speed to the GT500.

I would say the majority of people who buy a GT500 are coming to the dealership looking for that particular car and know what they are getting into. I just dont see a lot of people going to a dealership looking to purchase a standard Mustang and driving off the lot with a GT500.

Honestly, the attitude you are attributing to 5.0 owners is more in line with how others treat 5.0 owners. You are proving it with your posts. So many in this thread put the 5.0 down every chance they get. If you look in the beginning of this thread, not one person bothered to even correct the 13.5 time given for the 5.0. Instead they just bashed their owners. Its obvious a gt500 is the faster car if everything is equal. But with racing, things are not always equal.

Thanks man, I wouldve said eff the warranty and went with the cobra but I use my car for work doing sales calls. Didnt wanna risk it.

But yeah, I tried talking to a dude at a gas station in a nasty cammed TA, and he blew me off liKE I was below him. I figured he was just lumping me in with the mustang guys that throw on a K&N filter and a 6" cowl hood haha.

I agree that things are not always equal.

My opinions are just that: mine. I'm not forcing anyone to see things my way or anything. EVERYBODY has their own opinion on things.

I didn't correct the time because, honestly, it wasn't pertinent to anything I posted. I never posted a time for the 5.0 or the Cobra. I didn't feel track times were relevant to my conversation. Besides, the person who posted the incorrect time apologized for it. What more do you want?

I get that you feel 5.0 guys catch a lot of hate. And they do. And, in my opinion, it's very well deserved. As I meet more and more owners maybe that will change, but for now 99.9% of owners I am coming across fall into the categories I have outlined earlier. I can't help that.

That's just the LSx vs Any Ford Product war. Welcome to the winning side. :-D:beer:

Seriously though, some people just have huge egos and inferiority complexes. Not your fault. Forget that guy.
