Very sad. There is a guy on a cobra page on Facebook that loves driving his in the snow. He makes videos of it.

Very sad indeed. RIP

And that is where I live. We just got 2 to 3 inches of snow here Tuesday night (started early Wednesday morning). I haven't been on that road in a long time but know the area.

Why the **** was he driving a supercharged RWD vehicle in conditions like that?
Not sure, some daily drive them as you know. And snow is happening in areas that generally don't get snow.

And then there's those that I mentioned, that seem to like driving there cobra in snow. :(

If you can only afford one vehicle, you don't really have a choice. Been there, done that a long time ago when I was about this kids age. Now you can help that out with snow tires and driving more defensively.

That said, do any southern owners even know what a snow tire is since this isn't typical for them. So I could see how this could happen unfortunately.

The thing is, when I was a teenager I had my 91gt that never seen snow. And I live in Minnesota. I bought winter beaters.

Poor kid. Too damn young. I bet he was in too big of a hurry to get to work. Slow down when it's bad outside folks. Not only does this hurt the ones he left behind, but some poor schlep trooper had to be the one to tell the family.

Not a chance in hell I'd be driving my cobras in weather like that....and I'm around his age. I'd buy some shit $1000 Honda for the winter months. And NOT ruin my sporty car. lololol

Going to buy, insure, and maintain something you may need 3 times a year?

Depends on where you live, up here in New England many many people do this, buy a winter beater, put minimal insurance on it, and sell it in the spring for about what they paid for it.

Even if you paid $1000, and sold it for $300, that’s $700 for 5 months, or $140 per month.

We see enough snow where a beater is definitely warranted. But at 20~ or so years old most don't have the room and money to warrant having a beater. $1000 car will have issues, plus registration, insurance, tires (possibly) etc. The kid here probably had just enough money to get a loan on the Cobra.

I've had two vehicles from age 19-now. However there where a couple times I didn't and had to get to work in the fun car in winter.

That is definitely a really sad story. Lack of experience and bad driving habits causes these accidents all too often. For me, a winter beater is the only way to go...when you can afford the cheap second vehicle (FWD or 4x4) and have a place to keep it. When I was young I of course DD'd my first car - 1988 GT hatch 5-speed. I live in Pittsburgh - which isn't nearly as bad as Erie or Buffalo - but we get a fair amount of ice and snow and have more hills than most of the country. Of course it was horrible to drive in the snow - I wouldn't let anyone else drive it in bad weather for fear they'd wreck it. I would put snow tires on the back, about 150 pounds of sand bags in the hatch, and simply take my time. It forced me to learn to be a defensive driver...and I learned how to drive out of skids and slides. I literally would drive it like a grandpa for 5-6 months until spring arrived. Fast forward 25+ years and I have never had an accident in any weather other than getting rear-ended by a guy doing 40mph while at a stop waiting my turn to merge into a crowded highway. I'm definitely fortunate, but my defensive habits learned in my early days have helped a lot. My girls will be required to take defensive driving and evasive maneuver courses before I turn them loose on the highway. No way in hell they're learning on an '88 GT like I did.

I don't care who you are or how old you are. You should NOT be driving these cars on snowy, icy, cold roads... If you want to do some snow burnouts on a closed road or parking lot or something, that's different. But driving on public roads with other cars in those conditions, you're just begging for an accident.

And may mess up the truck driver mentally. While he has 0% of the blame, he was involved in an accident that killed someone.
